If I leave the house without my cell phone I feel disconnected the rest of the day. (I didn't own one until 2 years ago.)

I can hardly imagine scheduling time to watch TV now since everything I want to watch gets recorded on my DVR. On the rare occurrance when something is "just on" and I didn't record it in advance it's almost excruciating to have to sit through the commercials. (I've had a DVR all of 6 months now.)

If my internet connection goes down how on earth will I pay my bills? Find out what time the movies start? Check the weather? Look up a word in the dictionary(.com)??

Anyone else find they desperately need something they didn't need at all until it existed?

Yeah, I've fallen in love with my DVR too. The one thing that bugs me is that it can't tell when a live show has run long and delayed a broadcast.

I only got the first 40 minutes of a 1 hour show I was recording recently because the basketball game ran over.

Oh, sure, there are plenty of conveniences that I feel that way about. The opposite is also true though. If you find yourself without those things, it's remarkable how little it really matters.

I always drag my heels when Porter is wanting to purchase a new technology of some sort. But afterwards, I would never go back.

Saying you can't live without those things makes me kind of sad. I actually find myself saddened by a lot mankinds dependence on new technology. I have a work cell phone but overall they drive me nuts. Theirs nothing I hate worse than being out with someone and they theirs cell phone rings and they pick it up and completely ignore you for five minutes. All this new technology I feel is what has led alot to the "Now" generation. Before people would wait to call someone or wait till they see them again, now people have to call right NOW. Now people don't even have to try to get home to watch a show or put in a VHS they can record all their shows. I lived at a summercamp as a counciler for five weeks with no TV, Phones, video games, etc. and I found it to be one of the most relaxing, stress free times in my entire life. Just some thoughts...

And now it could be even more stress free if you have a DVR. You can record all the cool shows you might otherwise miss while at camp. [Evil]

The Internet. Just a little, though. I only have near heart attack level panic attacks when it goes down and I can't check my online communities, that's all. I have not actually had a heart attack yet, and I feel pretty good about it. I don't really need it at all.
