Ketchup princess has a horrid cough. Even when it doesn't quite wake her, it's enough to keep me awake.
It borders on croupish. I'm really hoping she gets better soon, she's been so miserable today and yesterday. And my sewing is lagging behind schedule because of the uninterrupted baby-holding.
It's so heartbreaking to not be able to fix it for her. And I try to reassure her, but I'm not sure how much she understands. Poor baby!

Ketchup prince consort, of course, climbed into bed and immediately dropped off.
His excuse is that he has to work in the morning. I think it's got more to do with the fact that I'm an insomniac to begin with, and he's not.

No vaporizer/humidifier in the house? Might be worth getting -- the cheap ones start at $15 or less. (I'd loan you mine, but it's kind of a long walk. )
Hope all of y'all feel better soon!

KQ, there is a lovely baby bath with vapors. Ooh, I think it is made by Vaseline. It's kind of like Vicks, but you just put a little in their bath water, and the steam is soothing. My son has always gotten croupy when he gets sick, and it helped.

Oh, of course the humidifier has been going all night; she sleeps with it to begin with, since she's usually a stuffy kind of kid.
We have a same-day sick appt. this morning, because I got a grand total of about 2 or 3 hours of sleep last night, and Ems, I'm afraid, didn't get too much more. It's definitely croup, unless she's decided to join the circus or the zoo as a trained seal, 'cause she's sure barking like one. I'm hoping they'll have some handy dandy suggestions about what else I can do.
I don't want to fly with a sick baby! Or infect Olivia and her family!

And thank you for the suggestion, Elizabeth, but she can't use baby baths. She has horridly sensitive skin and excema; she washes with nothing-added Dove, like the rest of us.
But her humidifier does have a place for a pour-in vapor thingy. Maybe while we're at the doctor's (okay, nurse practitioner's), I'll ask if that's okay to use.

KQ, I understand, I think. Nathan has this horrid cough right now and I SWEAR sounds like a smoker.

Oddly, sleep deprivation and sensitive skin can be related. (Via the cortisol).
I've been having trouble sleeping as late as I theoretically could, of late. Which is really frustrating.

KQ, yikes, sorry you lost so much sleep! I hope the NP has some good suggestions for getting her past it quickly, both for Emma's sake and for yours! Definitely keep us posted...

Yess! Bad skin sisters, unite! *holds up fist* *looks at arm connected to fist and its funky-looking ultra-dry skin condition* *withdraws fist from air, because no one really wants to see that*
Edit: I must really be tired. "Its", not "it's". Wow.

Well, we actually saw an NP in training and a doctor today. Of course, going to the doctor's office is the magic cure for all respitory ailments; no sign of the stridor and she only coughed once while the NP was in the room, once as the doctor was leaving. I was advised that she may have 1/2 a tsp. of Robitussin to help loosen her cough, but that she should be fine in a couple of days. I feel better, though, and am glad that Dr. Payne (isn't that a hilarious name for a doctor?) told me I did the right thing to bring her in after a night like that.

kq, did you try angling the headboard of her crib up on a few books? This might help a bit, as it will put her in more of an inclined position rather than flat while she sleeps. Hope she feels better soon.

I tried that but she wouldn't sleep, and it was dangerous when she stood up. She likes to sleep with her rear up in the air, apparently that wasn't compatible with the tilted crib.

/tangent *rotfl* You see, Ciara got her stitches out from the c-section last week. I asked the vet if it was ok to give her a bath. I'd been doing water rinses to keep the area clean but not using soap, partially because of the nursing puppies. Anyway he said yes, I said ok, I'll bathe her in Dove. He about had a hissy fit. Going NO use a DOG SHAMPOO. I smiled and nodded... and she got bathed in gentle Dove shampoo.
I've had better results with human shampoo on dogs than any dog shampoo. Theoretically the pH balances are slightly different, but I think they cut corners in dog shampoo that they don't in human shampoo, which is why the human shampoo always produces better results.

You know, I'm so tempted to post another thread next to this one titled, I'm exhausted.
Cause I am, and it would be funny.
I'm doing the workout at 5 AM thing this week, in order to have time during the rest of the day for the other stuff I have to do. ....so...tired...

Well, my husband came home and I got a nap, and then the baby went down for a nap and I got another nap. Much better.
And I gave her the Robitussin (okay, store brand), and she seems much better, as far as the cough and sore throat go.
And she ate some cookies, which is good, because she had been refusing solid food (probably on account of the sore throat). The fever is still hovering somewhere around 99, but she seems happy running around in just her diaper, so I'm hoping this will be mostly over by tomorrow.

She may have what I had/have. Regardless, I know how she/you feels. Until they gave me some serious drugs, I usually managed about 3 hours of sleep a night.

It's not a vaporizer, it's a hot humidifier. (Not what my choice would have been with an infant, but it was given to us for free.) It runs almost every night, and it's emptied when it's not on, so I don't think there's much danger of mold. Plus, I clean out the deposits with vinegar every week or so.
