I'm normally asleep by 10:30 and up by 5:00 AM (6.5 hours), but every couple of weeks or so I really crash in the afternoon and need a nap after work. I usually get a full night's sleep on the weekends though.

My bedside clock is normally between 10-15 minutes fast. Chris likes to be up 2 hours before he has to leave the house. I need 30-45 minutes only, so he usually gets up, showers, plays on the computer a few minutes, then wakes me. I shower, dress, eat, check email, then I'm out the door.

Does anyone here actually get 8 hours of sleep on anything resembling a regular basis? Post your sleep habits here:

Time to bed.
Time awake.
Average Hours of sleep.
How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up?
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks?

Time to bed: 11.30 - 12.00

Time awake: 5:45

Average Hours of sleep: er... 6?

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? 45 minutes

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? nope

I need much more sleep than that, so on weekends I sleep until 11, sometimes even 12.

Time to bed. 10:30 - 11:30

Time awake. 5:30 - 6:30

Average Hours of sleep. 7 hrs.

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? I usually have 2 hours.

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Sporadic insomnia, I'll wake at 2 or so in the morning and be unable to return to sleep until 4 or 5 o'clock, makes for a loooong day.

I require about 9 hours of sleep in order to function properly. During the work week I generally don't get it, though I try to keep as close to 8 as possible. I go to bed between 10 PM and 12 AM or so (usually closer to 10 PM) and get up at 6:52 AM. When I have a car and am no longer dependent on others to get me to and from work, I'll be able to get up at about 7:15 AM. That will be lovely by comparison.

Edit: I cut it as close as possible in the mornings to maximize sleep time. It takes about 39 minutes for me to get from the bed to the door.

Oh, dear, are you ready for this? I'm a college student and I live in a dorm. I hate my wacky sleep schedule. One more reason I'm looking forward to graduation in three weeks.

This all depends on what day it is:

Time to bed: 12:30 - 3:00
Time awake: 6:45 - 9:45 (11 - 12 on weekends)
Average Hours of sleep: 5 - 8
How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? An hour is nice, but sometimes I hit snooze a lot.
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Just that every night is a different schedule. And as nice as it would be to go to bed at about 11 every night, in a dorm, with an insomniac roommate like mine, that is impossible.

Time to bed: Usually after evening news, 10:30 PM, depending on how tired I am. Sometimes earlier

Time up: 5:30 AM

Leave house: 6:30 AM (so - one hour after rising)

Average hours of sleep: 7 (no wonder I'm tired!)

Sometimes grab a short nap after coming home from work if I'm extremely tired.

Part of my problem is that I take a medication for sleep AND mood stabilizing (Seroquel, at a very tiny 25mg dose). This med takes about 10 hours to kick from my system.

Time to bed: 11PM-12AM, depends on when seroquel kicks in and adderall wears off (when they wear off/ kick in together, I'm barely able to crawl to bed).

Time awake: I usually wake up first around 6:30AM, fall back asleep, and wake up again/get up about 8:00AM-8:30AM.

Average Hours of sleep: 9-10, but I tend to wake up at least three times a night.

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? 30 minutes.

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Yeah, the seroquel. If I don't take it, I won't fall asleep till 3-4AM if I'm lucky and will wake up every hour and get up around six.

Right now sleep is my enemy. I still have the sinus infection and am really tired all the time. [Frown] I feel like Calvin when he gets sick--cuts the edge off the normal high energy level!

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? Maybe an hour
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Last night my wife woke me up at about 2 AM where I had fallen asleep on the living room floor.

Time to bed: 10:00 - 11:30, except at least one night a week it will be around 9:30.
Time awake: 6:30
Average Hours of sleep: 7
How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? 2 - 2 1/2 hours. If it's a morning I am working out, I run around and go to the gym, but if it isn't, I usually read for an hour and fix a good breakfast. Either way, I leave for work around 9:00.
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? I wake up at 6:30 am every day without an alarm clock, if that's what you mean.

Sleep Habits: I can only fall asleep on my side, cuddling something, like a pillow or a teddy bear.

Time to bed: 10:30 to 11:30
Time awake: I usually try to get up at 6:00 or 6:30*
Average hours of sleep: 8, sort of
How early before leaving the house do I feel I have to get up? Depends heavily on how excited I am about what I have to leave the house for. But usually about 75 to 90 minutes. I wish I could get ready to go in 30 minutes like some of you. [Grumble]
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? I usually set 3 alarms: my bedside digital alarm clock, my cellphone, and my computer. I usually set my computer to play a song loudly three times, six minutes apart. Despite this somewhat elaborate scheme, see *.

-----

* But half the time I sleep through my alarms. When this happens I invariably wake up between 7:30 and 7:45, sans alarm.

Time to bed: Depends on how I feel, but usually some time between 9 and 11.

Time to get up: Depends on how I feel and what day of the week it is, but usually between 6:30 and 8. Wednesdays and Fridays I have to get up at 6:30 if I want a shower. The kids have to be up at 7 so we can get my son to his music lesson before school. Wednesdays and Fridays are brutal. [Smile]

I really need 8 hours of sleep but can function a few days in a row with just 6. But I tend to eat more heavily and the wrong things when I do that.

I need 30 minutes prep time to leave the house. Less if I skip taking a shower.

And now for the freaky college student sleep schedule

Time to bed. 2:30-3:00 AM

Time awake. 6:30 AM

Average Hours of sleep. 3-4

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? However long it takes to get dressed, usually 3-5 minutes.

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? I'll usually try to read but i absolutely have to have the TV on, I can't fall asleep without noise.

This is what I get for working full time and going to school full time, Now that its the end of the semester I'm looking forward to actual sleep in the summer!

I go to bed at 11p.
I try really hard to get up at 5a, but it's usually closer to 5:12 or 5:16 (4 minute snooze).
That's about 6 hours.
I need to leave the house by about 6:05a, so I need 45 minutes to an hour to get ready.
When I'm a really good girl and go to the gym between jobs, I am good to go energy-wise from 5a to 11p (with the help of a ritual two cups of coffee at work). Lately, though, I've had to take a power nap before I go back to my second job at 6p, and this past week has been murder due to something that finally seems to have gone away. Also, I have to make sure to take my allergy meds or I'll fill up during the night and not be able to breathe which screws up my sleep.

On weeknights:

Time to bed: About midnight, but can be anywhere from 11 to 1.
Time to rise: Alarm goes off at 6; I actually get out of bed more like 6:30/6:45 most days.
Average hours of sleep: 6
We leave the house in theory at 7:40-7:50, and in practice more like 8:00/8:05. So, about an hour. I never seem to manage to pack lunches the night before -- need to start doing that again.
Tricks: Weekends! Friday nights I am usually asleep by about 10/10:30, and sleep until at LEAST 8 or 9. Saturday nights I don't usually get to bed much earlier than weeknights, but I do sleep later (weeks the kids are at their dad's, MUCH later) Sunday mornings.

And all this assumes I fall asleep quickly. Unlike last night, when I didn't manage to fall asleep until about 4 am. *whimper* How am I supposed to manage all day at Legoland with three rambunctious kids on 4 hours of sleep? And it's raining . . . >_<

Time to bed: 10-11:30pm (assuming I didn't fall asleep putting Thomas to sleep). [Wink]
Time awake: 7-7:30am
Average Hours of sleep: 7 or so hours, depending on how T does (and how quickly my covers are stolen).
How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? Usually 1.5 to 2 hours, but then I'm getting Thomas dressed and making food for us both.
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? None that I'm aware of.

Time to Bed: 10-11
Time to Rise: 6:50
Average Sleep: 8-9 hrs
I try to keep my weekend schedule the same.

Unfortunately, whenever I'm doing anything creative (as I am right now) I spend a lot of time in bed with my mind racing instead of being asleep as it should be. All week I've gotten maybe 5-6 hrs a night. And it's catching up with me. =(

As a recent college graduate, currently unemployed, I have plenty of time to sleep. I usually go to bed around 3AM, and wake up anywhere from noon - 1PM. So that's 9 or 10 hours of sleep per night. Envy me (but only if you enjoy being poor).

I don't have a standard answer to any of these questions. Everything varies. Generally, however, I allow myself 15 - 20 minutes to get ready between when I wake up and when I have to be out the door. I usually take a lot more than that, and check Hatrack, read my email, perhaps workout and/or make a nice breakfast, but that's all I need.

And I can function just fine on 6 or 7 hours of sleep, but I like getting more. [Smile] Being able to roll over and go back to sleep always feels incredibly luxurious. I like weekends.

Time awake. About 7-8
Average Hours of sleep. 8ish, but I am a frequent waker, so in effect less.

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? wind down with a good book. For the past few eeks I've been taking valerian on and off, but I don't want to get dependent.

Time to bed: 10:30 (when my parents think I do) 11:30-12:30 fall asleep. Later if I have lots of homework; earlier if I'm really tired. Weekends: 1:30-2:30

Time awake: It really depends on what you mean. Wake up? When my parental alarm comes in. 7:00 when my dad drives me to school; 6:15 if I take the bus. What time I usually roll out of bed (literally)? Bus: 6:35, drive 7:15.Weekends, wake up at usually 11-12, out of bed at maybe 1-2 (I have my laptop in bed with me)

Average Hours of sleep: weekdays: 7 on bus days; 8 on drive days; 9 on weekends.

How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? Well, it takes me 15 minutes to get dressed, put in my contacts, brush my hair, and do any other prettying up that I may want to do.

Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Well, I don't really know. I really don't remember anything from when I get really tired and almost fall asleep to when I roll out of bed.

There you have it.

Time to bed - between 11:00 and midnight
Time awake - alarm starts buzzing at 6:30, I'm vertical at about 7:00.
Average Hours of sleep 7-8
How early before leaving the house do you feel you have to get up? I get up 45 minutes ahead but I would like to have more time, I just can't manage to get out of bed sooner
Any peculiar sleep habits/time tricks? Music. I'll either have the alarm radio in sleep mode so I get an hour of broadcast radio or a CD in the player. And I'm as likely to listen to driving rock as I am classical or ballads. I just need the sound.

For all days except Saturday -
Time to bed : between 10pm and 11pm
Time awake : between 4am and 5am
Average hours of sleep : 5 to 7
Time between getting up and leaving house : 2 to 2-1/2

Peculiar sleep habit - Saturday; to wit:
Time awake : 3am
Time to bed : between 2 and 3pm
Time awake : 6pm
Time to bed : Sunday, between 1 and 2am
(luckily, though, I do not usually have to be up Sunday morning until 7)
Time between getting up and leaving house : 45 minutes

Other peculiar sleep habit: The schedules above catch up with me every so often. When this happens, I have to take a day off from work so I can sleep most of the day.
