Question: Where am I currently located?

My wife and I were going to take our 10 month old son to Japan for 15 days to show him off to my wife's family. We bought super-saver tickets several months ago. The tickets were really good deals. My round trip ticket was only $600.

We prepared everything. It was so fun to get little Toshi-chan's passport. We packed everything. We went shopping for little presents for her family. All was well and planned.

Last Monday (the 23rd), for no inspired reason, I started flipping through my passport and realized it expired!!!! [Eek!]

We over-nighted my passport to a company in San Francisco; they promised to stand in line for us at the Immigration office. They said that if they got the passport last Tuesday (the 24th), then I could have it back on Friday or Saturday. We paid an extra $80 to them, $126 to the immigration office to expedite the passport, and around $50 for both overnight charges.

The company forgot to mail it on Friday and instead mailed it on Saturday. They never even submitted it till Wednesday, even tho they got the passport before 10:30am on Tuesday. Grrr [Mad] Because of memorial day I did not get it till noon today. My wife left at 10:00am. [Frown]

If I remembered one day earlier, or if it was not a holiday on Monday, or if the company mailed it in time, or if they company submitted it the day they got it, or if our plane left just 4 hours later (the airport is 2 hours away), then I could have gone with my family.

The tickets were super-savors and I can not get a refund. I can not stand-by after today, and there were no open flights today. Most important, I am not in Japan with my wife and baby.

I am trying to look on the bright side and enjoy this time, but I am already a little lonely. For the past 10 months, I have taken care of Toshi for 4-6 hours every night. We have really bonded.

When I was driving around town today, I couldn't hear anything in the backseat. I get worried he stopped breathing and involuntarily checked to make sure he was ok before I remembered he is in Japan.

sigh......I guess I can clean the house.

*Wanders around aimlessly*

zannen deshita

Time for some curry rice!

Actually, now's a good time to eat all that stuff you haven't had since you got married...all that aburappoi (greasy) and amasugiru (too sweet) stuff that you've been craving.
