Fahim's sick - sore throat - so he doesn't want to go out. I'm trying to convince him that we need to order take away from the Flower Drum, our favorite Chinese restaurant. Other than that. . . Probably not. Although much snuggling will no doubt ensue.

Alas, we can't have chicken from there. Theirs is not a halal restaurant, so only seafood. However they have a most excellent Tom Yum Seafood Soup that we are positively in love with!

We should sit down sometime, quid, and you can give me a bunch of advice on living with South Asian men... since I'm sharing an apartment with two of them next semester.
One's Muslim (Bangladesh) and the other one is Hindu (India). Gonna be eating a lot of chicken and seafood.

So, I know Indian food pretty well, but what's Muslim Bangladeshi food like? Is it like Northern Indian Muslim food? Or does it have a different style?

Well, according to my boyfriend (the Indian), it's exactly like the food you'd get in Calcutta, India. Lots of seafood, and yummy spices.
According to Thalith (the Bangladeshi), it's pretty similar to Indian food, except it uses less variety of spices in one dish - instead a larger quantity of fewer types of spices are put into the dish. But that might just be the case in the few dishes he knows how to cook.
I guess I'll find out soon - Thalith's mom is coming to visit in Septemeber. She's suppose to be a very good cook. She eats halal (Thalith just avoids pork), so we'll have to drive into Indy to get meat.
I'm hoping to learn a few good dishes from her during her stay.

JH - I hear ya. It would be fun to have him here more. OTOH, he actually has a job and a lot of little side projects that take up his time when he's not working. Things like writing or editing his novel, plotting my novels with me, building a forum for scifi/fantasy writers, odd little programming jobs here and there . . . And the list goes on.
Thing about Indian/Bangladeshi/Sri Lankan food - there are a lot of similarities, but there are also huge regional differences. Like northern Indian food isn't anywhere near as hot as southern Indian (Tamil Nadu), and is actually fairly mild to the average North American palate. But that's the general difference. If you ate nothing but Indian food for a year, you could still not have the same thing twice. Indian food uses a lot of spices, especially when compared to NA cooking.
In Sri Lanka, Muslims cook the best wattalapam and some other dishes I don't remember at the moment. The Buddhists cook the best . . . whatever those dishes are, and so on. Certain dishes are used traditionally in specific religious holidays or festivals, so they become a specialty. Muslims apparently cook the best mutton, for example.
Fahim's comment is that he doesn't like western food - it's too bland. But then, he likes my cooking because I also find most NA food bland - I spice everything up.

Here's the part of the story I left out of the article - it was for a magazine, and I was already over the maximum word count, and besides, they wouldn't have cared.
Before that fateful day when I downloaded his program, I'd heard of blogs. I followed a few regularly and had read even more. But. I had zero desire to start one of my own. There was zero appeal. In fact, I decided that that was one thing I would never do.
Then that morning, June 3rd, 2003, I woke up and thought, I need to start a blog.
It came from literally nowhere. I was vehemently against it the day before, but that morning, those feelings were gone. What changed my mind?
I had no idea. But it felt like God was telling me to do this. I didn't know why, but I know very well that when He tells me to do something, I'm far better off following Him.
So I did.
I did a Google search and found 4 or 5 programs that suited my demands, including being free. I installed them, gave them all a try, and settled on Blog as being the one that was exactly what I was looking for.
In that article, you'll see that I had problems, went to his forums, and on June 13th, I emailed him for help, as per his instructions in the forum. We started chatting as he helped me figure out what was wrong. While we waited for this to load, or that to process, we chatted. About nothing important, and certainly nothing I can remember now. But. After only a few minutes of chatting, perhaps fifteen minutes in or half an hour, and I was hooked. I knew, after that short of a time, that this was a man I found fascinating, interesting, charming, fun, funny. His personality was so completely attractive to me.
By the end of the day, one set of Blog problems were solved, but I still had html coding problems. It had nothing to do with his program, but I wasn't willing to let go of him yet. So I asked him if he'd help me the next day. He quickly agreed. Later, he told me that he was anxious to connect with me the next day as well, for the same reasons as me. In other words, he was also a totally smitten kitten.
In other words, all it took was us chatting for fifteen minutes to a half hour, and the rest was inevitable. Unstoppable.
And I would have married him sooner if there had been a way.
