Between the Star Wars prequels, the Matrix movies, and the Harry Potter books, I think I've had my fill of destined heroes who are Chosen by some prophecy which is either vague, obviously inaccurate, misinterpreted, or nearly nonsensical. Not going to get into the specifics of each one, because I'm sure they've already been picked apart in each's relative discussions. It's just enough.

That being said, maybe Hatrack needs a Chosen One. Hmmm... Rivka is the Chosen One!

The Chosen One for what?

The One to be Chosen, of course!

Well, who Chose her, then?

I did. Just now. Weren't you paying attention?

I read this title as that you were tired of half-baked dentistry, and was curious what was going on with your teeth now.

Yay Rivka! Actuall Enigmatic- it's not a person that chooses them. It's always some great non understandable force without a concious.

Except for the Matrix- wasn't it the architect (I only saw Reloaded and Revolutions once a few years ago)

Star Wars- the Force
Harry Potter- deep magic?

Now that rivka is chosen, can we come up with an evil that she must overcome in order to save us all?

What if Rivka wants to take on a quest?

And what kind of destiny is it. Is it the one where the fabric of the universe is rearranged so a person can meet a certain fate? Or is it just the eventual choices that will lead to a chain of causality that lead to the same fate?

Either way- we need to be proven that Rivka is The chosen one. It's one thing to say someone is chosen- but to be The chosen- that's different.

Proof? You can see pretty easily in that first post that I chose her. There is also not more than one of her.
Rivka = The one who was chosen = The chosen one.

It's really not all that complicated.

Ahem. The Rivka is out at the moment. However, if you wish to speak with The Chosen One, I would be happy to book an appointment for you to consult with her. For a small fee, of course.

Please be aware that The Rivka is fully booked for the remainder of the month of August, and fairly heavily committed for the month of September. However, we will do our best to fit you into The Rivka's busy schedule.

(Barn with a hayloft. RIVKA has just finished a rousing song-and-dance number in the rafters. She gazes upwards into the heavens)

RIVKA: I know I am the Chosen One, but couldn't you choose someone else for a while?

Am too! My apartment's on the 3rd floor, 4th if you're looking at the building from the back. That's totally up in the sky, especially if you're standing pretty close the building when you look up!

Well, you chose to date her. So she was chosen for that.

I think "The Rivka" goes back further though, I seem to recall an "Ask the Rivka" thread or something like that.

Eh, I knew it was a possibly innacurate assumption, but ignored that to go for the joke.

You did choose to date her, in that you could have chosen not to. But you did not chose her to date, which wouldn't make her a chosen one.

"What offended me is that some of us don't have enough options that we can make choices like that." Ah, but then the assumption that you are a person who can make choices like that is a compliment. Although, "We think you should get more dates than you actually do" is a frustrating sort of compliment, admittedly.

If you're at all genuinely offended (despite the tongue-smilies) I do apologize. Maybe this mean girl is the evil Rivka should defeat?

The tormentor would just be a random encounter on the way to the big bad.

Kind of like the snow monster on Hoth, or the Rancor, or even Jabba.

Just a light workout for the Rivka.

Odd. I was just saying to my son this evening that if there are two other guys together in a tub, no matter what their professions are, he should not get into the tub with them.

If only more mothers would make sure that their sons knew these basic facts of life...
