I was listening to the Keith DeCandido interview on the Serenity Podcast and I got really excited when I heard that there are two more novels planned for the Firefly 'verse.

DeCandido is the author of the Serenity novelization. He mentioned during the interview that several authors have submitted story ideas, but he declined to mention any specific names. He also said that at least one of the new books will definitely not be authored by him.

If Firefly never comes back to us as a TV series or a movie sequel, it would be really cool if OSC could write a couple of novels for the Firefly 'verse.

OSC is the perfect person for the job. Like Joss, OSC likes to focus on character development, communal bonds, and moral dilemmas. And let's not forget OSC is pretty good at writing interesting brother-sister dynamics.

Who knows, maybe Joss will repay the favor by directing Speaker for the Dead. [Smile]

I think Joss has said he could never direct something he didn't write.

And it'd be really, really cool.

Me, I could never let some one else direct what I write. It hurts too much.

Whedon did direct an episode of Angel that he didn't write -- ep. 4 of season 2, "Untouched," which was written by Mere Smith. That's the only one listed on imdb.com that he's listed as having directed but not written.

Typically though it seems that the novels based on series are written by authors trying to make it, not authors that have made it.
Typically that is……..

OSC did write Abyss, which in my opinion was far better than the movie, but I really doubt he'd do this. With Abyss, they were trying to do something new- actually write a good novelization of a movie. A Firefly novel doesn't seem like a new type of project. Plus, I bet OSC would cost far more than they'd be willing to pay.

All that said, it would be really awesome if he did it. [Smile]

Some of the authors I've heard that were interested are also established. The author who did the Serenity novelization is established, although he made his name doing stories in other peoples' worlds.

Love of the 'verse might could do it. I could see OSC doing it if, and only if, he thought up something cool and original that brought a new viewpoint to the 'verse. He's doing "Ultimate Iron Man," after all, and he's definitely bringing his own style to the table there [Smile]

The 'verse is wide open for OSC. He could write about frontier settlers ("Folks of the Fringe") or follow up on parliamentary politics (Starway Congress).

*chants* OSC ... OSC ... OSC ...

I'd buy it in a flash if he wrote it.

Yeah, but that applies to anything he writes.

While we're speaking of Firefly, (not that we ever aren't) DOES anyone know if it's planned for a TV comeback?

I'm close to halfway through the series and it's just starting to hit me that it's gonna end soon. Since I just recently started watching it.

Hamson, I feel your pain. [Frown]

There is still a fighting chance that we may get Serenity sequels. Joss has stated many times that we are less likely to get a TV series than we are to get a movie franchise.
