I'll be leaving at the end of next week to spend a week in beautiful sunny FRESNO! We'll be driving, so not a lot of gas money to travel afield, but if anyone in that area wnats to get together for lunch at a park or something, I'd love it.

romanylass...where in Fresno will you be? We have two big, beautiful parks available for picnics, and you're going to be here just at the time of year when summer starts going away and it generally isn't too hot to picnic in the middle of the day. I work at home, on my own schedule, so we should be able to work out a time to do lunch.
This is so cool. Nobody ever comes to Fresno.

Technically, we'll be in Auberry. But my hubby has family/friends down in Fresno, so we'll be getting into town.

Will you have internet access in Auberry so that you can let me know when you know the day/days you will be in Fresno and we can arrange something? If not, e-mail me (my addy should be in my profile; I'll check to make sure it is) and I'll send along my phone number so that you can call me when you get down here and we can make plans.

I love Fresno. I have family there, and in Clovis, too. We used to spend part of our summers there when I was a kid.

You can say you love Fresno and you've been here in the summer, johnsonweed? What are you, some kind of a masochist?
As far as I'm concerned, Fresno wouldn't be nearly so bad if it didn't have summer - or at least the summer temperatures we have here. We had a run this year of 30 out of 31 days in a row in July and August of 100 + temperatures. Yesterday was the first day in around three months that I didn't have to turn on the air conditioner for at least part of the day.
I grew up in Southern California, where it might get hot during the day but cools off by evening, more often than not. And I don't really mind when it gets hot during the day. But when it's still 85 or 90 degrees at midnight, my tolerance ends.

I sure hope so. If you e-mailed me, romanylass, I missed it. My hotmail isn't always working well, so if you did, can you resend to ElnFrei (at) aol dot com, as it seems to be more reliable.

lma, have you heard from romanylass? I haven't yet. Do you know when she's getting in? We need to know whether we're going to Fresno tomorrow or not.

Haven't heard anything yet, but I've been online working most of the day. Good thing about working at home: I get to keep my own schedule. Bad thing about working at home: I only have dial-up, so when I'm working, no one can call me. Wait. That isn't always a bad thing, but is bad in this case.
When I e-mailed her, I said I was easier to get before 10 am or after 7 pm, so I might hear this evening. I hope.

We haven't heard anything or been able to reach her on her cell. I'm worried she may not have coverage out here and won't be able to get in touch. We set aside the day tomorrow, but really would like to know if we're going or not. Is it long distance for you? Maybe you could try calling tomorrow morning?

As you suspected, KQ, romanylass didn't have cell coverage up in the mountains. She did call today, when they were down here in town. Since it turned out she and her family were only a few blocks from my place, they came by here and we had a nice visit.

She called me, too. But then she lost reception again!
Oh, well, when we someday get around to visiting our friends in Seattle, we'll make a point to see her, too.

And, you know, you could make a day trip up here to Fresno to visit me someday, too. We've got parks; we've got a zoo. I wonder if they have tours of the Underground Gardens these days. Hmmmmm.
Anyway, invitation's open, anytime you get the urge to get out of L.A. for the day.

Yeah, that would be fun! This weekend we have the ward campout, next is General Conference, and the week after that I'm performing at a street fair. But we should totally get together sometime. Or meet halfway or something.

Name a weekend, and we'll work something out. As far as I know, I'm free up until the weekend of Thanksgiving, and then I'll actually be down in your neck of the woods - that's LosCon weekend.
Can't believe it's been almost a year since my mom and I had lunch with Rivka as we were on our way home from the con last year.
