So I was meandering down the main streets of St. Louis today (as for why, that my come in another thread next week) when I discover that they are giving away concrete momentos of Bush Stadium.

Bush Stadium was the home of the St. Louis cardinals since before I was born. It is being torn down and replaced by a stadium with mor stadium boxes and less crowd appeal.

Tonight the last of the old stadium will be gone. TV Cameras and private cameras were photographing the death of one legend and the rebirth of a new stadium. The new one is half built while a good part of the old one was still standing. With the St. Louis Arch as the background, it was a great photo op.

But what got my interest was the free souveniers, chunks of concrete from Bush Stadium.

This is like having a peice of the Berlin Wall, or the World Trade Towers, only more sports historical than, well, actual historical.

I got two chunks, each smaller than a bread box. My plan is to chip them into smaller peices and give them away as Christmas Gifts, with some photos of the stadium or some notes.

But they are just pieces of concrete. How do I go about turning them into memorials? Any ideas?

Mount them on little plaques of wood with a brass nameplate that says "Bush Stadium, 19XX - 2005". (should there be a "c" in there?)

Get a baseball holder and a new ball and attach the chip to the base of the holder.

Use it as the stone in a tin ring and tell the recipient it will give them magic baseball powers.

Heat 1 cup of cream to simmering Pour the hot cream into a food processor and process in 1 1/2 cups of bittersweet chocolate chips. Process until all the chocolate is melted and all blended in.

Pour into a bowl and cool. This will make a chocolate ganache. Take a chip of the concrete, and mold the ganache around it. You can roll the whole thing in cocoa powder, coconut shreds, or chopped nuts.

Place in a little paper frilly candy cup, and serve up "Stadium Surprise Truffles".

The surprise is in the emergency trip to the dentist.
