So my assistant coach and I have decided to start training over the next six weeks or so in the hopes of entering a masters/senior/open wrestling tournament. I'm excited about the idea but at the same time can't help think that this is going to be a very painful experience. We keep talking about the way todays youth has become soft and would never have been able to survive the type of practices we had when competeing. Of course I'm only 27 and my assistant is only 21 but still... we may have bitten off more than we can chew.
Anyone else ever dove head first into something just to see if you can stiil do it, knowing you may have a lot of sore painful days ahead of you?

How in shape are you? The last open tournament I wrestled in, my first match was against a guy who was about 40. Granted, he dropped out after the second period, but he still had a decent showing.
Out of curiosity, where do you live at? I've been having a tough time finding many open tournaments in my area.

My husband went into marathon training when he was 29 because he had set a goal to run one before he turned 30. It was hard on him, because before that he usually didn't run distances longer than about six miles at a time, but he did it. Then he ran a second marathon a year later.

I use to be able to ride my bike like a bat out of hell. Now... I still try and ride it, and this last summer I started to be able to get to where I could sprint up hills again... nothing like I use to be able to. But still, I haven't given up and I'm 32!!

I started training to be a professional wrestler at age 34 and it was very painful for the most part. But two years later I am still doing it

I'm a very old 27 year old. Had back surgery about three years ago and it really slowed me down a lot. This is the first time I've really felt like getting back into shape and competing. We'll see how things go.

ah, that's all part of the fun. Last year I took a knee to the face in practice and fractured my cheek bone, mashed a nerve in my face and fell down with a slight concusion. I was cross eyed for two days. It was awesome. Then of course, there was the back a few years back, and I split my chin a week before the concusion. I have a slight cauliflower ear from high school too.

I thought you were literally chasing after youth. I mean, I would guess youth would be pretty fast. I had this great image in my head. *laughs softly to self*
