Hi Bob. You probably don't realize this, but I work a lot. 50 hours a week, sometimes 60. Due to the nature of the business I'm in, I have different hours than most people. My *one* day off is Wednesday. And by God, I'm taking it. I need to. I need some Troy time. I'm only human. And I need an unwinding day. So when you call me on Tuesday afternoon and tell me you're going to be there at 9:30 tomorrow morning, don't act so shocked when I say no. I'm not going to meet you. First of all, you don't get to tell me when it's going to happen. You ask me when I can meet you. You work out a time with me. You don't dictate terms.

You were blown away when I suggested Monday. "Memorial Day??" Hey, Bob -- what's the problem? You're taking Memorial Day off? Fine. Take it off. But don't ask me to meet you on *my* day off, either. And don't act like I'm crazy for trying to work out a time with you. I'm just making a suggestion about a time that'd work for me -- not telling you I'm marrying your sister or anything.

You gum-chewing, smirking A-hole. Stop call me "bud" and "buddy" in that smirking demeaning way just because I'm asking you to fulfill the warranty on a building you built incorrectly. That leak in the ceiling is a design flaw? Really. How odd that it doesn't exist at any of our other buildings. How odd that I was specifically told by the representative from *my* company -- who was there during construction -- that you rushed the job during the construction phase. You job-botching superior-feeling fool-cakes.

I mean, seriously.

I know you don't like me. It's painfully obvious. And the extent that you go out of your smirkingly superior way to let me know that you don't like me? Fine. Fine, "bud." I don't like you either. And *of course* I couldn't have built the building. It's not my job to build buildings. It's not my field. That doesn't make you better than me, capable of more, smarter. You for damn sure couldn't do my job either.

You: "My roofers will be there at 9:30 tomorrow."
Me: "How about Monday?"
You: "Memorial Day??"
Me: "All right, how about next Tuesday. Tomorrow doesn't work for us."
You: "I want to get this taken care of as quickly as possible."
Me: "Yeah, so do I."
You: (pained sigh)
Me: "Tomorrow doesn't work for us."
You: "Hey, I know *mornings* aren't good for you. But we can either do it in the morning or we can do it when the theater is open, traipsing around.... We're on two totally different schedules. So you gotta work with us on finding a time to do this."
Me: "Mornings are fine."
You: (pained sigh) "We have to figure out a time to do this."
Me: "Well, that's what I'm saying. Next Tuesday would be great for us."

I mean, the fact that you felt it necessary to talk down to me about trying to work out a time was such bullshit. I was *telling* you the time. I was already trying to work out the time with you, but you were still stuck on pointing out the differences in our schedules as if it somehow made me inferior. You were so intent on making an *issue* out of the fact that tomorrow doesn't work for us, that you couldn't just deal with simply working out a time that *did* work for us.

This is a two-way street, "bud."

And because I'm a professional person, "bud," (smirk, condescending shoulder-pat) when I see you I'll speak to you politely, work with you in a professional manner. I won't condescend to you, "bud" (smirk) or *sigh* at you, or roll my eyes, "bud," or pat your shoulder like you're my effing serf. And when you do those things to me, I'll just smile, maintain, and then come rant on hatrack....

Not because hatrack cares, but because it'll prevent me from blowing a stack or two.

That was beautiful!! Spot on.

I work in the design and supply side of the construction industry. Builders everywhere have no sense of schedule beyond the next 24 hours.

Never have, never will.
