My baby sister just had her second child. My new niece's name is Billie Isabel. I must be getting old, because her kids are named Haley and Billie, and I can't even imagine where such names come from.

I have to say, though, that I am not a big fan of "Billie" on girls. Maybe she'll go by Izzy when she gets older, who knows.

I might call her Billie-Bell. Which would be an improvement on her pre-natal name, which was "Floppy". <grin>
And Tom, Haley is a pretty name. But I can count the number of Jewish Haleys and Billies I've ever heard of on the fingers of two fingers.

When I was in pre school I knew an African American Haley. Her father was a grad student and worked in IU's astronomy department, at the telescope. She was born in 1985.

And do you want to know what a horrible aunt I am? I keep thinking that my niece is Haley, when I know it's Riley. I don't know why I keep mixing up those names (except for them both being wildly unusual for Jewish girls).
Or maybe it's just the mom thing of mixing up names. Don't all moms do that?

My mother didn't, but my brother and I are such drastically different people in both personality and appearance that I imagine it was easier for her.

I'm a Grandpa!!!!!!again, about an hour ago. And they are going to name her Anicka. (accent the first a) Thats pretty unusual for a little Mormon girl. But, I am reminded, again, that Grandpa doesn't get a vote.

Mazel tov, Lisa! I actually know many Jewish Hallies and Haleys. No Billies, though.
Congratulations, Artemisia Tridentata! I think Anicka is a very pretty name, though I haven't ever seen it spelled that way.

I'm not sure about the spelling. I got it from my son. He is not the speller in that family. I will ask my daughter as soon as I have a chance. I think they think it is a variant of Ann. But, with that spelling it is more likely Agnes.
EDIT: Ok, the speller has spoken. Her name is Anika Elizabeth.

My second cousin is named Annika, which is the more popular spelling. The name has had a sudden surge in popularity, in a few years you'll be seeing quite a few of them around in many parts of the country.
