I just got my confirmation email from them. I got wait listed at Harvard and Bates. I was planning on becoming either a high school teacher or a college professor of English, which means I wont be making much money so I had to go to school for a relatively small amount. Harvard and Brown have programs where if I make under a certain amount (which I do) I can get in for free. I'm super excited, and I've been throwing up all afternoon in anticipation of the decision.
You nice people come in in helping me decide how to word my email to Bates, I'm thinking caustic or intensely sarcastic in tone but I'd like some help on the details. I also got into Lesley College (my safety) and they gave me a full scholarship, so I need to contact them ASAP so that can go to someone else.

My advice: don't write a snarky letter. If you think you might want to go into academia, you might have to ask those people for a job. Burning bridges = bad.
Congrats on the acceptance!

Yeah, absolutely no reason to write a snarky letter anywhere. Enjoy knowing you got accepted somewhere you want to go, and forget about the rest.

Fair enough, I suppose I was only kidding with that part, I can't see actually following through with it. I'm just a little giddy and surprised I got into Brown and not Bates. Thanks for the congratulations.

Congratulations! Now you can kick back and relax (which I've been doing since I got into Cornell in December)!

There are a number of us on Hatrack who go / went to Brown. I had a great time there — hope you do too!

For really interesting reading about why you may have gotten into Brown but not Bates, try The Gatekeepers. (Well, not you specifically, of course...but it's fascinating reading about the college admissions process.)

Mmm. Not terribly accurate as a general study. Pretty accurate for the specific school he was at.

Hmm, I'll give it serious consideration, and let you know if I decide to go, I don't know if I'll be able to get down there on the 15th for logistical reasons and I'm leaving for Italy on the 17th.
I definitely want to visit some time soon, do I definitely want to go for ADOCH or are there other options available?
