I have a feeling the degree of the shaking is necessary for the illusion, but if they can find a way to bring that down, this could make huge changes in video.

You have to have the shaking in order to get the two perspectives. Any slower and your brain will probably not be fooled, and the illusion will be lost.

My aunt and uncle have something almost identical hanging in their home. Except that one side is bookshelves and the other is a seascape. This guy may really have created it as he says, but I'm not convinced. But yes, it's a cool illusion. I can stand there looking at the one at my aunt and uncle's, and it's still really hard for my eyes to focus to be able to see past the illusion.
