Hubby and I were downtown Monday, and drove by the site less than 10 minutes before this happened. And I mean *right* by it, right next to it. Couldn't have been closer to the warehouse if we were on Airgas property. [Eek!]

Enough of a coincidence? How's this? Hubby worked there up until about 3 months ago...he would have been there at the time of the explosion. Yikes!

This site is actually very close to another Airgas facility. Once Homeland Security was set up, the government requires facilities such as this to procure extra security whenever the threat level rises. That's why he worked there...hubby is a security guy. One of the guys he works for is contracted with Airgas in Tulsa to provide armed officers to help prevent terrorist attacks.

People were evacuated in a 3/4 mile radius, and at least 3 homes and several nearby businesses burned, as well as dozens of cars. Local news reports are blaming the explosions on probable "static charges mixed with recent high temperatures." You'd think they'd try harder to prevent this type of thing from happening if that is really the cause.

It figures, though, that out of all the things to worry about, static would have caused this much damage.

It will turn into the classic "lock the barn doors after the horses have escaped" exercise. Everyone will suddenly become very knowledgeable about the dangers of static electricity and the blame will start flying, assisted by all the news stations.

I wonder if things were empty. You know gas fumes that heat up can explode, as evidenced, allegedly, by TWA flight 800.

Wow - no injuries. That's a very good thing. I'm glad you're safe, too, Boon.

Actually, a lot of the explosions were "empty" containers. One vivid memory of the news coverage shows a group of about 100 oxygen canisters waiting to be filled sitting right next to some cars. BOOM! Boom! BOOM! Canisters and cars going up in flames.

Edit to add...and thank you so much for caring. I love you all too. [Kiss]
