'Fess up.

I know you're out there.

You've tried to resist, but you keep going back for the fix. You tell yourself it's for a good cause, but you know better -- you know you want it. Want it bad.

You've spent so much time cruisin' for your jones that you know all the trends: the Brits whose sales end in mid-day, that Barbara chick with the flowers in her girls' hair, the Warhol wannabes. You've fallen for Snider's spaces, you've broken down for a pear or two, and maybe you ...

... you too ...

... maybe you also are in the process of framing your eBay Self-Representing Artist finds today.

(Anyone else ready to discuss the Most Frightful Find and your favorite goth faery artist?)

No takers? Egads, people, it's like an electronic version of St Vincent DePaul's Dig N'Save. Even the atrocious stuff is interesting.

And my third Snider piece was a steal. He's going to have another New York showing soon.

Check out newbie Crystal Heath from British Columbia. My first piece of her work is stunning in person.

I am reading some "Charles DeLint" works.

This reads like something right out of "The Onion Girl". You sound so Jilly right now.

*sigh
Nobody?

My husband does our budget, and I have a monthly eBay Art allowance. This is important, because although I buy secondhand shoes and broken teapots for my own use, live on peanut butter crackers, and have 3 cds to my name, I've really, really taken a shine to Snider.

You can't have his Window Side Table. It will be mine. [Mad]

Hey, Dan! Thanks!

I like Jilly. [Smile]

So ... do you wanna compare notes on Horrid Pet Pictures? The cat with the, ummm, exposed pointy parts just above the hula skirt was the worst. "A good fit for any room," my sweet patootie. [Roll Eyes]

I don't even go near the Naked Men. They are just scary. But hmmm, I could do me a Martini or two, but only in the original print. Stay away from the olives, though. They belong on black velvet, right next to the dogs' ashtray. [Wink]

Sorry, I am having a brain strain moment. I can't think to compare at the moment.

S'okay, Dan. I'm just trying to justify an obsession.

It isn't pretty, but I can rationalize it away if I try hard enough. I am supporting creative work, I surround myself with beauty, and I give encouragement to the entrepreneurial spirit. Yes, I'm a philanthropist.

A patron, if you well. [Hat]

Down with the man. Self-representation rocks. [Party]

CT: the next time you get a phone solication from a 'charity,' you can tell them, "I'm sorry, I already gave at the e-Bay."
----
e-Bay -- it's a feel good obsession.

--or--

e-Bay -- like the United Way, but you actually get cool stuff and they don't take as large of a cut for administrative costs

Heya, Sopwith and eslaine. [Big Grin]

Zal, that's very very good. Although to be truly altruistic, I should just send the artists anonymous donations and not accept any paintings.

The thought occurs to me, but I do not do it. I haven't evolved that far yet.

[Edit: Blue Couch just arrived. I adore the light and shadows! [Big Grin] ]

I wish ebay weren't blocked by my work's firewall. Then I could see what you're talking about.

Noemon, you are better off not getting infected. Trust me. [Smile]

Wait a moment. If you want to see "Blue Couch," I might be able to port it over to yahoo photos.

Noemon, I apparently am a klutz at uploading files. May I attach to emails for your yahoo account? I will send them separately, as they might (?) be big jpegs, and that way you could minimize drain on your system.

Sure CT, that would be fine. You could send them all in one message if you'd like, though; my connection here at work is fairly high bandwidth.

Three are sent. I can't figure out any other reason than size for me to be unable to upload to yahoo photos, but then again, I'm not exactly known for my stellar technological accomplishments. [Big Grin]

Christy -- neat! You will have to bring the teaset over for tea. [Smile] We'll have cucmber sandwiches with the crusts cut off.

The Chinese print is lovely. Your dining room?

Where are all the goth fairies? *giggle*

Edit: I think the Chinese piece is set for the dining room, but I'm not sure where it will go. *giggle* He just thought it was so cool. He also saw another crane one, but I guess he didn't get it.

Different styles come in waves. Here's one of Barbara Swarovski's women -- not goth faery, but she has a distinct and recognizable style. She has a definite audience on eBay, but I'm not quite taken with her paintings. Pretty, though.

Some faeries:

Halloween Witch and Mushroom Fairy by Victoria Griffin. She tends to a sort of stained-glass style. Then there's Tanya Roberts, who does more of the goth stuff. She has a Red Cigarette fairy, as well as a Brown Butterfly. Not very goth right now, although another wave is due in about a week.

Molly does some goth items, although this one is straight pretty. She has a big following.

Newcomer Kora Kallio has a goth boy up, and Meredith Dillman has quite a following.

Check out "Browse" on Self-representing Artists, then search for "fairy." There's a lot of goth stuff.

CT and others who like the good but not pretentious art:

Check out this illustration of Tolkien.

I love these illustrators' stuff. Also make sure to check out J. Gorchov's portfolio. I know him, but I wouldn't recommend him unless his stuff was good -- and it's very good.

EDIT: I have to add this one of Borges. And here's one by Gorchov of The Flaming Lips.

Zal, that's beautiful stuff. Thank you! I especially love the Tolkien.

Noemon was kind enough to send me some pictures of good sculpture. Maybe we could start a virtual museum here, with particularly tugging or meaningful pieces. It could be our Hatrack gallery. (Of course, the coolest would be to have a wing for some of the great art that's been done here by Jatrequeros. Hmmm. )
