Friday I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out.
I'm not going to be put under for the proceedure. They're just going to give me some happy juice in an IV. They're all in so it shouldn't be too bad. Can anyone give me some advice?

Go to the store on the way home. If you lean forward, blood will start trickling down your chin. Then you should bare your teeth and hiss at people. It's fun.

Well, I found out that my Care Bear is one of the very first that they produced. He has a teal coat, whereas the later versions of the same bear had a distict blue coat.

My son had all his wisdom teeth removed at once, but they put him under. When he woke up, he was all giddy and....weird. (He's usually very shy and reserved). But that wore off soon.
Then he hurt a lot for a couple of days. Things seemed to be all cleared up and okay after about a week, but then he suddenly swelled up real big (looked like a chipmunk) and they had to put him on antibiotics for a couple weeks.
But everything turned out okay eventually. He did it over a winter break at school, so he could just lie in his room and feel sorry for himself and not see anyone until his face quit swelling.

Stock up on IBprofen and know that it may hurt for two weeks or more. I would have rather gone through child birth again than get my wisdom teeth out! You also need a little waterpick squirter thingy to sqirt the food out of your sockets. The dentist didn't give me one at first and I had to go back in to the dentist and he finally gave me one.

I felt pretty much no pain at any time after the surgery. Except when the dentist had to dig really deep into my gums to get the stitches out. Your milage may vary.

First of all, this is one of the most common unnecessary surgeries performed. Make sure you really need this surgery before you do it. There is risk with all surgeries, and with all anaesthesia. Don't take that risk, not to mention the pain and trouble involved, unless you are sure you need it. My standard after bad experiences with wisdom teeth etc. is this. If it already hurts now as much as it's going to hurt after you let them cut on you then go ahead.
Secondly, make sure they do give you the syringe you are supposed to use to irrigate the empty sockets after the surgery. (Or whatever it is they do now.) They never gave me mine, so my sockets got infected, and it was a problem, and very painful for a long time. That coupled with the fact that there was no reason for me to get this done to begin with, other than "it may cause you some problems someday", sort of soured me on the whole idea of wisdom teeth extraction.
Thirdly, whatever you do, don't ever mix alcohol and codeine. The two are very poisonous in combination. Even just a little. Don't drink anything alcoholic for at leat 48 hours before the surgery, and not afterward until at least 48 hours after your last dose of pain medicine.
The anaesthesia did make me loopy for the whole day. I remember when I woke up I cried and cried, and after I came home I sat and played dirges on the piano all afternoon.
Hopefully your experience won't be as bad as mine was. I have always been susceptible to infections, and anaesthesia affects me badly.

Well, I'm heading off for the day. Tomorrow will be filled with my teeth being removed, so I won't be up to posting until probably Monday if I'm lucky.
