I am of the firm opinion that poptarts are the perfect sneak-into-the-theater snack. Portable, not smelly, not loud and crunchy, and -- with the proper form of ziploc preparation -- quiet to open.
AJ, if you and Steve can make it and want to come, I'll even spot you for a drink, too.

That's the kind of thing I could probably talk Diane into once the weather gets warmer and with a little notice. She's already cooperating with me to keep the Chicago weekend free.
She needs to be either out of town or pursuaded to go on the adventure - she doesn't drive any more and is without wheels if I'm not around and we haven't made arrangements to hire a driver in my absence.

Ok, definitely when it is warmer! I'm going to hold you to this. I'm really ok with driving just about anywhere within 6 hours as long as I have company. I have a Crysler Town and country mini van with lots of room if she doesn't have problems getting in and out.
Or if you guys are up for a lark in the country, and don't need as much space, once it is warmer, we can drive up to Wisconsin in my Steve's Eclipse Spyder convertible with the top down.

Stephen, then we'll plan it out for later in the spring. I can do planned events, when the payoff is great enough. Sounds like Diane is well worth it.

Afraid we'd have to use what I not-so- affectionately refer to as "the tank" our Ford Econoline van with lift. Diane uses a motorized chair. So we bring our own transportation.
Our van has lots of room, but only two actual seats - the driver and passenger seats in front. The rest is open and carpeted.
BTW, I forgot to tell people - Diane is now on reading "Alvin Journeyman." I finally got her started on "Seventh Son" a month ago. In her case, I chose that as a much more suitable intro to OSC than "Ender's Game." She is loving her introduction so far...

Yay, sndrake. Spread the wealth. (glad she likes it!)
BTW, the Point is fully wheelchair/motorized chair accessible, and there are also loveseats. Plenty of variety for seating, both in your own and in the seats provided. Hint, hint, summer movies coming up.

hmmm. There's the whole want to vs. ought to factor going on here. Of course I WANT to come, and clearly it is possible so I CAN.
The question is: Should I?
I have an online meeting that I'm supposed to participate in at 1pm for my sorority's alum chapter. It is one of those "where do we go from here?" meetings that could drag on forever. An excuse to play hookey would be nice, but I really should participate. We also should do some work on the house if it is warm enough to open the windows to let out paint fumes, especially considering Steve's mother is planning on visiting sometime in the next three months.
On the other hand Steve is planning on cyberpunk gaming in on Saturday evening that will go into the wee hours. I was thinking of going over and imbibing some booze but it isn't necessary.
On Sunday I have to bathe and groom my dogs, and do their claws and then drop them off in Rockford with their handler in the early evening.
I also need to get my butt in gear and finish Scotneb's bear and also address 40 more thank you postcards and get all 120 in the mail. (Including one to the UK.)
But part of me says hang it all, I should come. If I was actuall organized and not lazy I could probably do everything anyway... hmmm.

(Although trained as a bioethicist, I have no shame about sneaking in poptarts for everybody. . . . . . . Oh wait, hypocrisy is par for the course, right? No problem, then. )

I actually have all of the seats but the front two out of my mini van because of the dog crates I often haul around, but I couldn't manage the lift. I am competent at driving most vans and mini vans though if you don't want to.
As it will be a long and joyous friendship, we will have plenty of opportunities. I promise.
I'd love to have you, but there's something in me which rolls around in joy every time I realize that this opportunity will not be the last, that my friends will be with me for a long, long time.

Actually, being trained as a bioethicist means being able to rationalize why only you and other bioethicists should be able to sneak poptarts into the theater.

Well, I of course rely on rigorous case studies, having been thoroughly trained.
None of that amateurish anecdotal stuff for me. *nose in air
AJ, I trust you to sort out your own ethics. But did I tell you that there will be poptarts? Illicit poptarts? (it's even better when you aren't supposed to )

I think the answer is, you guys should go to the movie tonight without me. If I'm hankering for some companionship tomorrow afternoon or evening and feel like driving I'll give you a call, if you don't mind the possible spontenaity. If I did get there that evening, would you mind letting me crash on a couch if I didn't feel like driving back til Sunday morning?

I would, but my spouse is down for the count with a cold. He has hunkered down and is busy germing up the apartment.
However, I'd share a hotel room with you, my treat. We could get loopy on margaritas and write a Regency version of the Hatrack soap opera.

Actually it was a sudden sinus pain behind my eye that decided that I should at least be sensible in the short term and not go gallivanting off tonight.
I went home from work early on Wednesday because my sinuses were killing me, but after 12 hours of sleep the have gotten much better though not completely back to normal.
The offer is extremely tempting...particularly the margaritas! I need to see how tomorrow goes though.

Oh, man! We've got boys coming to visit us this weekend.
But you have no idea how much a night in a hotel room with margaritas sounds. Even better if you throw in a movie! Can we pleasepleaseplease promise to do this in the near future? I'm just about dying for some female companionship!
(heh - like how I just invite myself into your planning discussion? Slick, no? )

Actually how about next weekend? I've got to drive to Iowa at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning for a dog show, but other than that next weekend is pretty free.

Oh my god. I nearly busted a gut laughing at that. The mental picture of Tom with a baked ham under his coat trying to look inconspicuous just caught me the right way.
Thanks. That was a good laugh.

heeheehee! I'm glad someone's jealous, instead of just looking at me like I'm a nut.
As for when in the near future...crap. Umm...weekend after Easter? I'm free the 16th and 17th (but not the 18th, which is a Sunday).

Why Slash, I never knew you were into Regency. Tell you what -- how about you and I moderate a Regency Mafia together? All the guys can wear exquisitely tied cravats, and the women can all suffer from fits of the vapors when secret assaignations with lovers fall through.
C'mon, it'll be a hoot. I promise to post at least one from a hotel while getting frisky on margaritas.
AnnaJo, I had forgotten that we are going to join some friends of my husband's for dinner and a play. Could we try for next weekend with Vana (and any other Chicagonians who might be able to come)?
