Coming out of exile just to gloat. The Colts won!!
I'm rather disappointed in you lot that there isn't already a thread about it... You know, considering the number of folks here from Indiana.

I didn't have a vested interest in the SB this year. I did like to see Manning win. He seems like a good guy and the press has sure been on him about "not winning the big one".

Yay Manning! He really earned his MVP. It was the first time I've seen the Colts play this season and he really impressed me.
No offense to our Chicago Hatrackers, but I'm still mad at the Bears for taking the Saint's spot in the Superbowl. Still, our party started late and when we tuned in the Bears were ahead and I was seriously expecting them to win.
I'm already excited about next year. I wish football was year-round.

Despite a strong start from the Bears, if the Colts hadn't given up so many penalties, they'd have dominated the game. I thought Manning did a decent job, but I thought Dominick Rhodes did better.
Hooray Tony Dungee! I really missed him after he left Tampa. I'm glad he got his ring, too.

While I had no vested interest in either teams, I'm happy the Colts won because of Gary Brackett. He was a walk-on at Rutgers in 1998 who became our team MVP and co-captain by his senior year - then went undrafted and was picked up by the Colts as middle linebacker.
Hometown boy made good.

I've never heard this criticism applied to him before. Can you give/show me an example?
Most people I've heard, even non-Colts fan, seem to think he's a decent guy, willing to give credit to other members of his team (instead of hogging the limelight). I freely admit that I'm not a football fan at all, but everything I've ever heard of him has been what a stand-up guy he is.

Indianapolis Public Schools cancelled school today (due entirely to the superbowl), almost everywhere else in the state had a two hour delay either due to weather or the superbowl.
I just barely care about football at all, as in I know the names of the teams, but I'm expecting next year the Bears will use "Unfinished Business" as their theme, as Rex's high school team used his senior year.

While watching Peyton Manning last night, he was getting upset about every little call in our favor. He would scrunch his face up and mope and scream etc. Hence my characterization of him as whiny.
Again, note the bitterness. I'm sure Peyton Manning is an outstanding person, blah, blah, blah. But he made my team look like ninnies, and that just pisses me off.

I too hate Manning. I hate they way the NFL crowned him years ago and have been all over his 'story' and pushing him. I can't stand him. He looks goofy, he whines on the field, and he's overrated. He can do no wrong, and I'm tired of hearing the announcers go on and on and on about how great he is. I hate the fact they won yesterday.

Overrated? How, exactly? I agree about the announcers -- I get sick of their crowing about Peyton (I pretty much get sick of everything they do).

I'm in the 'Tired of the Manning Boys' camp.
Play football. Don't assault my senses from all angles with your endorsements. I know, I know, goes with the territory - I'm still sick of them.

I know, right. Totally overrated. With all the things people have been saying about him, you'd think that he'd do things like lead a team to winning the Superbowl and be the MVP of that Superbowl.

Not to mention winning about 80% of his starts and generally compiling asinine stats, all the while talking about how blessed he is to be playing with such a great line, RB, receivers, coach, etc., et al. Oh yeah, and he's married to his college girlfriend, does a ton of charity work, is more than happy to poke fun at himself, loves his parents, and works as hard or harder at his job than any other player in the league.
Yeah, disgusting.
Eli, on the other hand, is an overrated brat with a large sense of entitlement.

Actually, since the Bears played like ninnies for most of the game, I don't think he had to do very much.
That stat line for that game was ridiculous. It was strangely parallel to the college NC game. Ohio St ran back the opening return for a TD, then got outplayed in nearly every aspect of the game from that point on.
Take out the first 14 seconds of this game, and it was pretty embarrassing.

Even in the first half, the score belied the performance of the team. The Bears were dominated in practically every statistical aspect of the game except the score - which was most significantly impacted by the first 14 seconds of play.
I mean, seriously. How many first downs did Chicago have in the first half? Total yards? Turnovers? Total plays?
If not for breakdowns in the Colt's special teams, the score would have been 33-10.

I think overrated is probably the wrong term. I just hate that guy, the way everyone is ready to jump on him and proclaim him the NFL saviour. Like they did with Favre. I hate those golden boy types. And he's goofy looking. Dork.
My friend calls him Hair Lip Manning.

I have a friend who teaches for IPS, and the official reason classes were canceled is that it was -19 with windchill at the times kids would be walking to school. She works in a poor section of town, and said that a lot of kids just did not have the winter clothing to deal with those sorts of temperatures. Of course, I don't doubt that people enjoyed having the time to celebrate (or recover from the previous day's celebrations).
I think Manning does look funny - his forehead is a little to long. He looks much better during the off-season when he grows out his hair a little. But calling him "dorky looking," and disliking him because he's good at what he does is just childish. I think he deserves most of the praise he gets - he's got awesome stats, he works the rules & clock & defensive lineup to his advantage (for people who haven't seen many Colts games, he often changes the play when he sees the defense line up, does sudden ball snaps when the other team is trying to substitute, etc,). If I were on the sideline I would wince when something goes wrong for my team, just like I was wincing and angry after special teams let Hester through in the first seconds of the game.
Bah. From all accounts, he's a good guy who cares about his family, cares about his team, and is very, very good at being a quarterback and leader for the Colts.

Jhai, the assistant superintendent on the news this morning said three bus drivers called in sick due to the superbowl and others weren't willing to do the extra routes needed on a cold day (they have cold weather routes apparently). Sadly that was their reasoning, though the weather would normally have done it.
