Something occurred to me today. For almost 5 years Bob has been coming to Hatrack. With over 17,000 posts you know he likes it here. One imagines it as his home away from home, his sanctuary from the stress and hassle of the rest of the world, his retreat to relax and be himself.

But now... ALL of his IN-LAWS are registered here! The poor man. How in the world does he manage to put up with us?

I figure if he can put up with living with Dana he should be able to put up with interacting with the rest of us on-line occasionally pretty easily.

I thought this was going to be a self-help/conscience sort of thing. You know, I've got this sticky ethical situation that involves...how would Bob handle it?

You'll notice that Bob, who was once posting so often that he actually passed me for a few hours, has fallen considerably behind. There has been, in fact, a not-inconsiderable drop in his posting frequency. I would never dream of suggesting that these phenomena are related. [Wink]

Are you suggesting he used to post things he wouldn't want us (his inlaws) to see? [Eek!]

I think that the reason his post count is down is understandable at this time - dkw's and his upcoming move is certainly keeping them both very busy packing stuff - and trust me, between the twi if them, them they have a LOT of stuff to pack!

I was thinking the same thing, but not in the way Krabby Patty is worried about. I am thinking he has the rest of his new family doing all his work for him so he can while away his time with Dana.

Then, he will come in and claim their post counts as his own, being family and all. Dagonee, is there a legal precedent for this? Can a man claim his spouse's post counts? Should they get some kind of insurance?

Unless they're posters in the entirety, I don't see how that would work.

*Sorry. Terrible law geek joke. Not funny to anyone who hasn't taken property in the last year or so.

I totally didn't get it, except for the fact that I recognized it as a joke I didn;t get. Does that count a little?

Tenants in the entirety is a form of property ownership which is only available to spouses. The property is owned by the marriage, not individuals. No one can get a claim to the property without both spouses consent.

So if one spouse hits someone in a car, that person can't take the house.

Edit: Again, it's clearly not funny except to us law school geeks. Real lawyers are cringing right now.

Frankly, I think the fact that his boss now lurks has more to do with it than the fact that his in-laws post.

Actually, my post frequency went way up during the whole "courtship" phase and my boss brought it to my attention. I think I posted about this at the time. It was during the whole courtship thing and I was tracking minute-by-minute the fun of it all. I had to agree I was spending too much time doing this, even if I felt that it wasn't interfering with getting work done. If there's time to Hatrack, there's time to get OTHER work done...Pretty simple logic that was hard to refute.

At any rate, I stay away during regular business hours and if there's a pressing deadline or something at other times. I know if I came out to Hatrack, I'd gradually start reading more and more and the deal with my boss is just not to be out here during work. Pretty easy decision given that my boss lets me do things like work from home.

As such, it means that I'm not really able to follow the flow of discussions and contribute since I come in late and usually when fewer people are posting.

So...I end up not posting much even when I am here.

I'm actually happy that my boss lurks here. She's had some funny observations about Hatrack and she met a few of you at the wedding, I would imagine. Maybe not...I don't know. I keep trying to get her to start posting, but she hasn't yet.

breyerchic...I tried to get my nephews to join too, but so far they haven't. Someday...

Tom...as long as we both remember that brief shining moment (when my post count equalled yours and we traded back and forth for a couple of hours), that's enough. I still suspect that the post-counter thingy here at Hatrack counts each of your posts 2 or 3 times...but that's as it should be.

[Big Grin]

As for the in-laws. I saw MOST of them today and they continue to act as if they like me. I suppose it could be that they are just nice people from the MidWest. But really, if that were the case, they wouldn't feed me... I mean, sure, I don't close my eyes when I sleep there, but that's personal preference, honest! It has nothing to do with my having married into a family of brilliant people possessing fiendish imaginations and my status as the new kid... Nothing at all.

"I know if I came out to Hatrack,"

Sorry, Bob, but, out of context, one wonders.

I thought about fixing that, but then I thought...nah, they wouldn't take that out of context, would they?

I understand but that is sad, though... [Frown] I thought that was one of the benefits of working from home.
