More about my pathetic search for a job. I have an interview with a temp place tomorrow. The problem is that I don't have respectable clothes so I just might have to postpone it until later in the week when I can get beter clothes. What should I get? I was thinking about wearing my respectable dark linen pants with a crips white shirt and perhaps a blazer, I'd also wear the same thing to a recital.

Goodwill, Salvation Army, Vincent de Paul would be places to visit for good clothes. But what you said sounds pretty good for an interview.

If the blazer goes well with the pants, then that sounds like a great outfit.
Seriously, I wore a white gap shirt and black linen pants to my last interview, and I felt like I was almost overdressed. You shouldn't worry about your clothes, as long as they're clean and neat. Focus more on how YOU come across... are you friendly? Professional? Mature? Trustworthy? Do you smile a lot and act rather comfortable, or are you nervous and unhappy to be there? That's going to matter a whole lot more than the cut of your jacket.

What?? Why reschedule?? It's not until tomorrow, right? Don't reschedule just because you're nervous, because if you don't overcome this now, you're not going to magically overcome it later.
What kind of help do you need to be ready for this? Soothing advice? Inspiring motivation? A swift kick in the pants to get you in that office? What's the stumbling block when it comes to interviews, and what do you need to do to get past it?

The best way to get over a fear of interviews is to do lots and lots of them. When I look for jobs, I start off with interviews with jobs that I'm only marginally interested in. Once I get to the good jobs, I'm polished and fearless.

It would actually be a strike against you to re-schedule the interview for anything other than a severe family emergency. Just relax, go there, and be honest. This interview probably isn't going to make or break anything. I've worked temp before myself. Most of the places really don't care what you look like. Granted, I did industrial temp work, which is worse than pulling hairs out of an elephants...yeah. Anyway good luck!

For a temp agency, that's more than enough. If you were interviewing for a job as a lawyer, then you'd probably need a very sharp business suit. But for this - it sounds very nice. Make sure everything that needs to be ironed is, and you'll be okay.

Kkep in mind that depending on the job it is almost always better to be overdressed for an interview than underdressed. There are a few job catagories that aren't like that, but I have only missed out of two jobs in my life that I interviewd for, and I always wear a suit.
If you are looking for a fairly serious job then the better you dress the more you show you are interested in it.

What temp agency are you going with? seriously, it's not a big deal, and once you've shown that you're a competent worker, they'll love you.

It's called Boylston Staffing. I will go there on Thursday. I have to go to the consignment place or maybe Kmart. I hate not having respectable enough clothes.

Why is the outfit you mentioned not respectable enough? Is it clean and in good condition? Because, as you described it, it's probably perfect.
I know that you've mentioned the importance of interview clothing many times in the past, and honestly, it's such a small part of the equation it's not really worth stressing about. It's especially not worth putting yourself through an emergency shopping trip at the last moment, I know how stressful that can be when you can't find what you're looking for.
What you're wearing to the interview will not make or break you. You could be wearing a $5000 designer suit encrusted with diamonds and you could still not get the job, and you could be wearing ripped jeans and still wow them enough to get an offer.
If you really want to prepare for the interview on Thursday, spend your time getting your thoughts in order. Go to a park and enjoy the gorgeous weather we're having, watch people walking their dogs, feed the pigeons, just get outside and enjoy the world. Clear your mind, stop stressing about minor details.
If you think about the upcoming interview at all, envision yourself calm and confident, with a tall, proud posture, firm handshake, and a smile that convinces them that you'd get along great with anyone. Think about what questions they might answer, and how you'd like to respond, but not to the point where you feel the urge to start memorizing everything.
And, if you find yourself a nervous wreck when the moment comes, just close your eyes, consciously relax each of your muscles one-by-one, and tell yourself that this is just a practice interview that your friends are holding for you, and they want you to succeed.
Because, really, these people WANT to hire YOU. They want to fill their open positions. They're going to be looking for reasons to like you, not looking for reasons to hate you. All you have to do is sit back, smile, and let them find all those good things about you that would make you an asset to them.

I just have these linen pants and a white shirt or a dark blue shirt I dislike tucking my shirt in, it makes me look rotund like a sausage. -_-

And I know what you mean, I hate tucking in shirts for the same reason. I'm betting that other people don't see it that way, though, you know?

Syn, there's something, IMO, about knowing you look good to help control the jitters of an interview. Seems so to me, anyway. It doesn't sound like you think what you're wearing is much to look at (and what you think is what matters), so I'll be here hoping you'll find something at the consignment shop that makes you look in the mirror and go "WOW! Is that ME? I look goooooooood!" And that it's very inexpensive.
Just try not to strut. That looks bad in interviews. I would love to hear how you've gotten a job you really like.

I just want something that is better than my current job in every way. It could be an office job, or a nice job at a bookstore, as long as I don't have to bag groceries I will be happy.
