Has anyone (American or not) felt the new nickel? I just got one when I went to the movies yesterday. They feel like playmoney. Maybe it's just the one I have, but it's mishapen, and the ridges aren't as smooth or rounded as the old nickels.

That having been said, I do like the new nickel. It's about time they start changing the design of our coinage, it never should have stayed static for so long. I can finally start collecting American coins again.

And its nice to see Jefferson facing east. Finally our coins won't be anti-Lincoln.

How many times are they going to mess with the most useless of coins? First there was the hand-shaking design, then the ship, now this! When will it end?

Hopefully never.

American coinage up until the 20's had been changed over and over again. It was always the tradition of the mint to never keep the design static. The fact that the dime, quarter, penny and nickel have stayed the same for so long is really a disappointment to numismatists and mint officials for decades.

Paper money needed to change for security reasons. Coinage needs to change for reasons of tradition. And the penny needs to be eliminated.

It costs 80% of what a penny is worth to produce it. We don't need it.
