Now I'm hoping I'm not embarrassing myself here by breaking any sort of rule or unofficial code of conduct but I must admit in the year+ that I have been reading these forums I cannot remember many "new member" posts but I didn't want to jump in without a "pleased to meet you" or... something. I finally decided it was time to join because I kept noticing topics of interest to me more and more frequently and the self-restraint required to keep from sharing my two cents worth was becoming unbearable
I would like to start out by stating I HAVE read OSC (Favorites would definitely be the Ender books, only partially because they were the first ones I found.)
Secondly please do not hesitate to correct me, because the only thing more embarrassing then making a mistake is being completely oblivious to said mistake while everyone laughs at you!
And that's all I can think of for the moment

Nice to meet you1 You said you had been around for over a year without posting yourself?
Shame on you!
As far as having read OSC, good for you, but despite recent threads, reading his books IS NOT a requirement for being here, although it can't hurt!
There are more than a few people who come here who have not read him, or aren't huge fans, and while I think they have deplorable ( ) taste in books, I try not to hold it against them. Usually they come around in the end...
I know I didn't post for about the first six months I was reading here, and I know many others who have done the same. But I think you will find it is very fulfilling to be involved. Since you have been around for a while, at least you have been able to see new folks come in and be completely and immediately accepted, which means the recent hijinks will not scare you off.

Welcome! Don't worry, I've been here for awhile and I still don't post very often. I usually prefer to merely read.

Howdy, Talison. Welcome to the `Rack. I can't say I started out as a lurker-those who've been here long enough to remember turin_4 would certainly call me on that if I did!-but I'm more of a lurker these days. I hope you enjoy the forum:)

Welcome, Talison! Don't feel bad; I lurked for two years before I ever posted. And, I could mention a lurker (or two) that has been lurking for MUCH longer than that, and still hardly ever posts!
I'd also like to add that this thread has managed to get "Sympathy for the Devil" into my head.

That's how I was before joining hatrack--I lurked for a few months before finally joining up. Welcome to the rack!

And as to my name; it was "inspired" (I use this word because almost every time I say "based on" someone feels the need to argue with my method) on Taliesin (Yes the Bard, who may have been a wizard).
I say it "Tal-ah-sin". I also often go by Tali, Tally, or Tal... Or anything else as long as I can tell you are speaking to me

Greetings, Talison! I'm a bit of an oldie around here, but kind of a newbie, too (haven't been around much until just recently). Always nice to have new blood.
quote: Where's Slash? Isn't he supposed to come around every once in a while to eat the newbi-
Slash is coming to a cook-out at my house tonight, and he hung out a bit last night. He didn't eat Ben, though. Is Ben still a newbie?
Anyway, we need somebody else to eat the newbies, 'cause he's moved on.
