I don't know which newspapers you like, so I put a few; my favourite still has nothing on. I just pray that there are no dead.

I know, I just saw it on the news ticker. I am already scared of flying, plus I have family who are traveling now.

I believe the plane was arriving, meaning it was trying to get down and failed to do so successfully.

last I heard, none dead, 14 injured (mostly minor injuries). News didn't say anything about ightning, just that it skidded off the end of the runway, broke up, and caught fire.

The article I read said the lights in the cabin went out before the plane made contact with the runway (didn't say how soon before though). If the electronics got well and truly zapped by lightning that could be a potential cause. Air France made a statement saying that given the condition, it's likely a weather related incident, and that the call (and of course the blame) was with the control tower. Let the finger pointing begin!
And yes, thankfully nothing more than minor injuries, which is impressive for a plane sliding off the runway and into a ditch.

According to the front page of the Washington Post, "Canadian official says only minor injuries reported."
