I'm fine, so are the other folks, damage to both our cars but it was totally her fault and I don't see how it could be interpreted otherwise, and she admitted as much.

I was driving down the road and this car suddenly pulled out from a business driveway in front of me to make a left turn. She was just sitting in my lane for a couple of seconds trying to make her left, not even looking at me but looking at the traffic coming in the opposite direction waiting for her spot to get in and didn't even see me till too late. I slammed on the brakes and saw that wasn't going to stop me so I swerved to miss her, but ended up hitting the front of the car and knocking her bumper right off, and my right front is pretty banged up, headlight and corner of hood smashed, passenger door won't open all the way.

Anyway, reports are in, yadda yadda, I certainly hope that things will go smoothly and that I'll get my car fixed without any trouble.

(I should have put this under the "Self-indulgent whining" thread, but that wouldn't have been quite as self-indulgent as starting my own sympathy- seeking thread. Although, for the record, Katarain, in case you read this I have to say that yours sounds like the bigger burden--I've never had migraines and am a big baby at a small headache. So you have my sympathy!)

First accident? I was shaky after my first accident.

By your fifth or sixth, you start to get used to it.

I woke up 3 weeks ago and looked outside and saw my entire driver's side door had been smashed in. This was after I had JUST gotten the car back from the shop after having the exact same spot fixed.

So, I went into the kitchen, got some breakfast, watched the news for a little while, then calmly called my claims adjuster, yes, I have my own insurance agent AND claims adjuster. He sighed and told me to bring it back in, which I did. I know all the people that work at the auto shop I go to, some of which joke that I'm putting their kids through school.

After awhile you just can't get angry anymore and it starts being funny....

Uprooted, you should talk to my husband. Almost the same thing happened to him except he wasn't moving, just sitting there and he honked and everything.

And the baby was in the backseat.

Oh. Was that you? Sorry. But maybe you should stop parking on the street just opposite the end of my driveway. You keep getting in my way when I back out.

My biggest accident involved a woman pulling in front of me and slamming on her brakes. I slammed on mine as well but couldn't stop in time and ended up rear ending me. Two years later (this was the FIRST of my many auto issues) I'm still being sued by her for $100K, and the case has yet to be resolved. Even though it was clearly her fault. She claims she swerved out of the way to miss a dump truck, but why she slammed on her brakes is beyond me. Furthermore, she continually lied about what happened after the fact, claiming she spun around several times, when she didn't.

She also claimed she was alone in the car, when I know for a fact her granddaughter was in the passenger seat next to her, but was moved to her husband's car when he arrived at the scene. It's just so sneaky and underhanded, exactly the kind of thing that makes the American legal system look stupid because it's so rife with BS law suits. So it's me against her, and her lawyer is painting her as some sort of saint whose life has been radically altered by an irresponsible teenager (I was driving 10 miles an hour UNDER the speed limit on the freeway).

After that, it was hard to get mad about having my side mirror clipped off, getting my drivers side door smashed in twice, having a guy back into my bumper while stopped at a stop sign, having my alternator die on me in the Taco Bell drivethru, and being rear ended by a guy who drove off. I've reached a higher plane of acceptance, and I'm only 21 [Cry] .

Sorry to hijack your thread Uproot. I now return you to your regularly scheduled sympathy [Smile]

I figured it was a woman driver. Anything bigger than a VW Beetle and they can't handle it. [Taunt]

This is exactly what was happening to my mom and her next door neighbors. The family across the street has adult kids who all seem to have lead feet and they repeatedly ran into vehicles parked across from their driveway... for 4 or 5 car lengths in either direction, depending on how much they managed to turn the steering wheel before making contact. The best part of it is that Mom's neighbor to the south is a police officer... and one day the eldest son hit the patrol car as Bill was coming out of the house!

Hijack away--quite a story!

I forgot to mention that I got busted for never getting a GA license (I still have a VA one). So I'll be driving to the DMV today to take care of that. The officer didn't give me a citation for it, but told me if he sees me driving around w/o it again he will. These things always catch up to me!

I lived in Vancouver, BC, for five years. During those five years, my license plates were stolen twice, the car broken into 9 times, and I was rear-ended 8 times, and hit by an insurance scammer another time.

Paying all those deductibles gets tiring. And expensive.

Yeah. This is where I'd like to insert a politically incorrect joke about all those lousy Asian drivers. Now that I live in Sri Lanka, I understand why they're so lousy. *sigh*

Are you sure you're not Stephanie Plum?

Sympathies to anyone who's been in a car accident. My worst was a six-car accident on the tollway. [Eek!] I had actually been anticipating an accident that day because the traffic was stopping VERY quickly, so I was driving defensively--in the left lane so I could pull onto the wide shoulder quickly, and glancing in my review mirror a lot. Sure enough, I had to swerve into the shoulder to avoid getting creamed, but ended up getting rear-ended anyway. Minor damage, though, since I was at the head of the chain and had expected an accident.

It was very, very freaky, though, because I saw the whole thing happen in my review mirror in about three seconds. The cars were bouncing around like ping-pong balls and crumbled instantly. Several of the cars were totaled. No one majorly hurt, thankfully, but a lady did elect to go to the hospital to get checked out just in case.

I've only been in one accident too. Mine was a roller though. I'm lucky that I wasn't hurt or killed.

Some guy ran me off the road and my car was skidding sideways at freeway speeds so I had a total lack of control of my vehicle. I was skidding in a straight line, the highway was turning, and I proceeded to roll down the hill which was adjacent to the highway. I'll never forget seeing the ground go around and around 5 or six times.
*shudder*

Lyrhawn, you must be making up for the excessive good karma my parents have. Neither has ever been in an accident while driving. It's ridiculous.

[Smile] I just saw this. I got a mention in a new thread. Go me. [Wink] hehe.

Sorry about your accident. I haven't had a migraine since that day. Here's hoping it stays that way. [Smile]

And accidents cause all sorts of headaches of their own...and hopefully no residual pain.

Grrrg, I know the feeling. I was in an accident three and a half years ago and the case is STILL going on. I would have thought the statute of limmitations would have gone into effect, but the attorney says no, something about it being delayed because I was a minor at the time. The trial date was initially in January, then it got pushed back to June, and then to this week. Well, I just got off the phone with my lawyer and apparently its been moved back to November. This is ridiculous! [Mad] I want it over and done with.

Uprooted, you have my sympathy. [Frown]

Ouch... accidents really suck...

Our tennant got in an accident the week before she was supposed to move out. It wasn't her fault, but she had a lot of trouble making sure the person who was to blame admitted it. (The 16 year old girl wouldn't fill out her form.)

So she was on the phone a lot begging the girl's insurance company to get her to send in the form, and... they wouldn't do anything. It just... seemed so inhuman.

Anywho, from watching her go through that experience, I will never forget this term. Left turn yield on green.
