How can I tell if I have ADD? Because I think I do. I have an extreme problem with concentration and I'm extremely easily distracted. These are symptoms are they not? Is there someone who could give me an idea on how to tell?

While there's plenty of books and self-administered tests that can help you come to your own conclusions, only a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist can give you an official medical diagonosis (if you want medication, an IEP for school, or the like).

Try talking to a counselor at your school; if they're not a psychologist they can probably point you to one.

I just got diagnosed with ADD recently. Lack of concentration, easily distracted, and too many thoughts swimming around my head was what made them diagnose me with it. But are you having alot of problems getting good grades in school? Is there any reason why you really need to start concentrating better? I take medication for it now and it's the best thing that ever happened to me. Last year I had probably the worst grades in my school. This year, when I started taking it, I've gotten almost all As on tests in subjects that I previously failed, including a few tests where I got the highest grade in my class. If you're having trouble in school because of lack of concentration I strongly reccommend it.

But if you're doing fine in school you probably shouldn't take it, even if you do have ADD. I've read numerous articles about the problems the medicaton causes. So far, I've lost my appetite for dinner, which is a problem for me since I'm already so skinny and I'm trying to get bigger. Also, sometimes if you sit still for too long, like during class, and don't move, you feel a little bit like you're swimming. Which is kind of fun but probably isn't such a good sign [Wink]

Around this time last year they had an AD/HD hotline going on for what was apparently National AD/HD awareness day. (Not that it was an actual hotline . . . it was "put your name down and a physician will be in touch with you within 48 hours.") I don't know if they did/are doing that this year, though.
