So I'm a raging Firefly-cum-Serenity geek, and went so far as to obtain a gigantic cardboard poster of the movie. It's hanging over my bed right now, because I'm just barely secure enough in my heterosexuality to want Nathan Fillion staring down on me every night.
And in case I'm not, "Nathan Fillion"'s a common typo for "big breasts omg omg."
But yeah, so it's nearly as soothing as you'd think to wake up to a giant Summer Glau pointing a gun at your face, and during the usual morning ritual of stretching, scratching, and applying ointment, I noticed something in the far right corner of the poster. God knows why I didn't see it before.

Tha is what it looks like to me too. But... the shading is all wrong for it to be a planet and moon. But then, none of the shading is consistent, so. Oh well.

I read this as "shindig", then as "shanding" before finally pronouncing it out properly. Firefly/Serenity has taken over my brain!

I don't think the moon is a deathstar, but what about those jagged black lines behind the words FIREFLY, oculdn't that be the deathstar 2 under construction??

Did anyone else notice Serenity flying by near the beginning of the Battlestar Galactica miniseries? I just saw it for the first time, and I had to rewind to be sure, but it was definitely Serenity ...

Puppy, that is indeed correct. I can't remember where I read it but I deliberately went back to check.

Zoic, the company that did the special effects for Firefly and Serenity, also does the effects for Battlestar Galactica (which, not coincidentally, features a very similar "look" for spaceflight). The appearance of Serenity the ship in BSG was a wink and a nod to influences past.

I love the BSG and Firefly graphics! One of these days I'm going to slow-mo all the space scenes so's I can learn something for my amature animations.
