My friend told me that getting medical problems diagnosed over the internet on a text forum was a pretty silly idea. Thoughts?

I need to make an alt named Dr. Cracken Von Poopenhoffen or something like that and give silly medical advice just to see if people follow it.

"Vell, liebchen, virst ve moost shmear our kopfs mit der peanut butter, den...."

It shouldn't be the only thing you do, that's for sure. I don't think it would hurt as long you don't take anyone's unseen, amature opinion as gospel.

I think one can get references to reliable published information over the internet, but it is extremely difficult sometimes to tell whether you are "speaking" with someone who 1) is qualified and 2) knows his or her own limitations.

Getting accurate information is good. But diagnosis really can't be made only through text communication, so all the information in the world may not actually be what you need. Then again, sometimes you just need some information. It depends. [Smile]

Yep.

A lot of doctors here, from what I've heard via Fahim and others, won't necessarily even tell you what your diagnosis is if they think it'll impede treatment or cause misery. Ie, if you have cancer. They'll decide for themselves what your treatment will be with no consultation from the patient. If you don't know what your diagnosis is, or what the treatment options are, how can a person decide for themselves what the best course of treatment is for them? Not everything is written in stone.

Information good. *grunt* *grunt*
