Here's the type they're looking for...

Sounds like they're casting the dwarf roles...three of which are pivotal to the plot.

Why do they actually have to be dwarves (or at least really short)? Nothing againts dwarves or ... vertically challenged people, but John Rhys-Davis looked fine as a dwarf and he's, what, 6'2"? Unless it's just kind of filler characters, it seems like they'd get an established actor and just make him look like a dwarf.

Maybe it's because these dwarfs won't be standing next to adults, but children.

Could they be casting Doctor Cornelius, maybe?

It took a lot of time, effort, and money to make John Rhys-Davis look like a dwarf. And a lot of that work already had to be done to make Elijah Wood and company look like hobbits. The director probably doesn't want to go through that.

They already have Dryads, Tree Gods, Naiads, River Gods, Talking Beasts, Minor Greco-Roman Deities, Centaurs, a Hag, a Werewolf, Aslan...

They may want to keep an already massive creature FX budget slightly under control. [Smile]
