That's cool, but it's a shame about the timing of the article. I think more people would get motivated about a scooter if it was mentioned in the early spring with two seasons of good riding weather ahead. Fall in SLC makes a scooter a hard sell.

I love gelato. We have an amazing gelateria in my hometown. And yes, chocolate is an excellent gelato flavor. I'm also fond of almond, strawberry, and mint (not all together!)

My favoritie is Hazelnut Gelato, followed closely by raspberry, strawberry and blueberry (not necessarily in that order).

First the newspaper, now the TV. This morning, My Gelato and I were filmed and interviewed for a local TV program (On Your Leisure). The theory is we will be broadcast a 9:00 am Sunday. I'm sure I'll cringe when I see how they cut what I had to say.
I'm wryly amused that I'm getting so much attention just for buying an electric bike.

not that it's directly comparable, but at one point my family was in the posession of 2 Yugos and 1 Rabbit. They aren't electric, but those 5 gallon tanks of gas could get you remarkably far (if slowly)

Yeah, over here in Nevada list last weekend was FREEZING. I commute 13 miles, most of it on the highway, using my motorcycle at 7:00 am. It's normally very refreshing, but it's just been downright cold these last few days.
Also, my in-laws who live in Logan said that they got some snow up in the mountains last weekend. Logan winters are much worse than SLC ones, but it's still cold in SLC.
How do they keep the streets in the winter Rabbit? Will you still be commuting with it then? The cold isn't so bad, it's the icy streets that you'd really have to watch out for.

I've been commuting by bicycle for years so I know all about the hazards of ice when you have only two wheels. Remember I lived in Montana for nearly a decade and commuted on foot and bike year round. (Mostly on foot during the icy season). My husband and I walked the 2 1/2 miles to the University in every kind of weather. We did it in 30 below zero (F) weather. We did it on snow shoes.
Here in Salt Lake, we had a violent hale storm Sunday morning that left a couple of inches of hale on the ground in down town. We got snow down to about 6000 ft in the same storm system, so it has been cool in the mornings for the past few days, but nothing a light jacket and a pair of gloves can't fix.
Salt Lake keeps its streets ice free by the use of copious amounts of salt. Some time you find drifts of salt on the road that are a couple of inches deep (no kidding).
For the past several years I've been taking the bus when it snows. I plan to do the same this winter.

One of the best kept secrets of SLC. Because of the "Lake Effect", the snow falls already salted.

Excellent. I've considered something like that, because I flat out must shower after biking anywhere under my own power. It's something I'd consider if I moved to a smaller town, or even to a place with less dangerous traffic. I probably need to lose some weight first, though.
Let us know how she handles.

Mmm, hazelnut gelato is definitely the best. There's a place on 22nd and Capp (not too far from me) that I haven't been to nearly often enough.

My family had two Rabbits when I was growing up (one was named Frodo and the other Shafan). My dad now drives a Jetta TDI, which gets 50ish mpg.
I get around by bike these days. I just found an interesting blog that attempts to calculate the equivalent fuel efficiency of a person on a bike. For a typical trip of mine I get 720 mpg. Of course, that's a very rough estimate.
