Read all about it in this interview with King Abdullah of Jordan on Haaretz. Jordan's nuclear ambition is only one element of a generally interesting interview, FYI.

There's a little bit of analysis of Jordan's motives for seeking nuclear power on ArmsControlWonk.com as well.

Not sure how to take these articles...

On the one hand, Jordan is not our enemy, and I think we've always had a good relationship with that country, no?

So if they are wanting it for energy, I understand that. But you can't help thinking they also don't want to have Iran so close without having defenses...

In the first article there is the quote
quote:
n other words, you're saying that you expect Israel to join the NPT.
In that quote, what does NPT stand for? I can't find it spelled out further in any other part of the article...

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. India, Pakistan, and Israel are not signatories; North Korea has withdrawn. Iran is still a signatory (uranium enrichment is allowed under terms of the treaty).

Added: Drat, pulled away from my desk for a few minutes and I'm beaten to the punch!

Thanks. I expected (from the context) for it to be somekind of nuclear treaty, but wasn't sure of the name so I could look it up further.

My first thought--well Micheal is a powerful athlete, but I wouldn't call him Nuclear Powered.

Then I thought, is Robert going to Nuke Rand and the rest of his world? Cool!
