Your friend drives a hard bargain. The first 10 places I saw on google only charge about $20 for a gun rental.

I'm Canadian its actually pretty hard to import in Airsoft guns.

But the final decision about it was that airsoft vs paintball paintball was just cheaper gunwise.

I didnt so much as borrow the gun as I rented it from him as he and my other friend are dealing paintball equipment. And yes it was outdoors on private land, kinda annoyed at all the tall grass though way too much cover.

Ah, that's too bad about airsoft gear. I was a paintballer and loved it before converting to airsoft. So have fun!

Also, I'm a sneakysneak, lots of cover is my friend. [Evil Laugh]

I went paint-balling a lot, I thought it was a blast, but it's just too expensive for how much enjoyment, especially when you get guys with their gun upgrades and win only because of that. Unfortunately, the better equipped player wins most of the time. So you have to invest a lot of money to really stay competitive, and I'm one of those types of people where you have to win occasionally for it to be fun. [Smile]

I would like to know more about airsoft though.

The Utah Aisoft link above is good source of information. As a warning, the forums on that site have much more relaxed rules. Videogoogle and such often have videos that are good examples of gameplay. As with any sport, the people you play with are the most important factor. That factor is magnified in airsoft because it is honor based. Everything is on the honor system because there is often no way to prove that you were hit. That is why I tend to play only with people I trust.

As far as gear is concerned I think the initial cost for airsoft can be lower than painball. I'm not positive on this point because I haven't priced painball gear recently.

Airsoft is based around using plastic bb's for ammo instead of balls of paint, these bb's are considerably less expesive than painballs and also lighter allowing a greater range and rate of fire. This lends Airsoft to have some issues with upgraded gear getting an upper hand on the battlefield (especially when dealing with range.) This can be circumvented by playing styles, like being a sneakysneak.

30$ Canadian is about 2000-3000 balls. Airsoft long term is cheaper but shortterm is more expensive as say a P90 airsoft gun a good one is close to 400$ compared to 200$ for a good gun, paintball guns tend to only get more expensive when you mod em to resemble G36A's or AK47's.

I think it would be fun to play, if everyone had very limited ammo and it was more about sneaking and ambushes and so forth.

All the videos and TV shows I've seen it's been a couple dozen people hiding behind bunkers, shooting hundreds of balls as fast as possible so nobody can move.

At least at the competitive level, it looks like it's all about luck and who can put out the most paint.

It's Canadian money probably, so it's about a nickel US. No biggie.

And it's good that you got hit with wet paint balls, because I bet the dry ones hurt like hell.

Oh... went... never mind.

I did a scerario game nearby once. $30 all day, and you just pay for the paint as you go. Over 200 people came to play out a theoretical Nazi invasion of England. It was a blast. People had tanks and grenades. England lost by the way.

I've played a few times, and it was rather fun. No one playing had their own equipment, so we were all on a level playing field.

at most paintbal places the make money via the balls, 15$ for 100 balls, 200$ for 2000, my friends found out a way to make it 30ish dollars for 2000.

The terrain here was mostly swamp, trees, swamp, rocks, a bridge, swamp, tall grass, water cannals, swamp, several dirt paths, a camp ground, and of course the swamp.
