I just started buying books on CD and I have one complaint. The format between CD's is not consistent. When I rip a CD to my computer, I get CD's going to different directories. I am currently ripping HP Chamber of Secrets and Windows Media Player puts the files in three different directories.

Annoying.

What are you using to rip?

ripping programs frequently have a default setting that creates folders based on how the tracks are tagged (typically in the "artist" and "album" fields). They also frequently auto-populate these fields from online databases that are written in a very inconsistent manner by any number of people, mostly amateurs. This makes it so different CDs, even in a set, are tagged and filed differently.

You could try changing the default settings to manually designate which folders you're ripping to. Also, it might help if you either manually enter the track tags, or at least proof-read the tags that automatically come up and edit them for consistency between tracks and discs.

Hope that helps. Good luck. [Smile]

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. When I transfered LotR to the ipod every single disk had a different convention for naming the tracks. Some of them had the disk number and then a letter: 13A, 13B, etc. Some of them went by the chapter of the book: Chapter 5 - 1, Chapter 5 - 2, etc. Some of them had which book of the trilogy: Two Towers 14B, and some of them didn't. It was horrible trying to get them into the right order for the playlist.

I had avoided reading this thread because I thought the title referred to a book written about "CD annoyance," which I figured meant "problems with your Certificate of Deposit," which means money talk, which means "I can't figure out what the conversation is about, and it will make my head hurt."

You can imagine my surprise and delight. It's computer techno issues, another great yawning maw of my ignorance (add in professional sports, and you get a full trifecta)!

So, no help here, but you have my sympathies. I would suggest leaving a shallow dish of milk and some sweetened breadcrumbs out overnight next to the machinery in question. You never know. [Wink]

You should just download books from Audible. That solves all these problems.
