I was listening to NPR on Thursday on my way home from school, and one of the musical interludes between the first story about the $700 billion bailout and the musical review of Construction of Boston was this really cool song that I want to get.

But when I went to NPR's website to find it, none of the musical interludes they have listed for that episode are the song that I heard between the two stories. It started off with a lone guitar, sounded classical (like something Handel would write) and had short trills, then the guitar was joined by what sounded like a clarinet, and another instrument, and it sounded really cool. But I can't for the life of me find it!

If anyone was listening and happens to know what it was or where I can find it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Off the top of my head, the only thing that sounds remotely similary is "Air de danse" from Stravinsky's Orpheus, which is the kind of piece that NPR would definitely and has probably used. In that case, it would be a lute and two english horns (which you could easily take for a clarinet).

Otherwise I'd just suggest emailing them. Or if you can download the podcast, post a clip of the music and I will listen to it- if it is classical I can probably give you at least the time period if not the composer and possibly the recording date and performers. I have a knack for picking out recording dates based on production qualities- I'm usually within a couple of years.

I listened to it on the website and they'd edited out the music. Do you think the podcast would have the unedited version of the show?

If all else fails I will email them, I'm just saving that for a last resort because I didn't figure they'd respond.

Doesn't FA have a forum or something? I never checked. It's possible the podcast has the music. Music is left in for TAL, but it's often part of the show. OTOH, what you hear on the website is likely what you get in the podcast. Only upshot is that it's NPR, so you can bet they'll be using the same music again. TAL has about 6 tracks on rotation that work for pretty much every show they do- and they've been using the same tunes for a decade.

It can happen sometimes that the local affiliate will play music over what's coming through from NPR. Particularly when they want to make local announcements and such, they're prone to do that. I wonder if that could be it? It might be the reason the music you heard wasn't on the show when you downloaded it.
