I am scheduled to make a trip to JPL (Pasadena, CA) on November 27-30. I know there are a lot of Hatrackers out there. Would anyone be willing to meet? I would so love to be real.
Edit: I put an acronym in and didn't put where the place was. I'm so tired right now.

mebbe, depending on my work schedule at the time, though I have a feeling you're more looking for one of the other more regular folks than I

Grimace, I would like to meet anyone and everyone. Business trips can get very boring. I just noticed our post count is almost exactly the same and we registerred the same time.

Well, if you ever make a business trip to Wichita, Kansas, I'll buy you lunch. But, of course, we have no NASA facilities here. (only Boeing and Spirit). And, of course, it's almost so close you would go home for lunch

brojack, it's also kinda creepy cause we seem to work in the same industry... are you sure we're not each other's alternate personality? cause if so I'm probably Niki and not Jessica, which sucks cause it means you have the super strength and I'm just a bad actress

ahh, but since I am in fact a not terribly attractive man rather than an attractive woman I don't even have that
in any case, you might want to throw on something in the thread title along the lines of "another socal shinda?" or the like to get the attention of the rest just in case they're missing this post

The Moose and Squirrel clan should be around during that time frame. You might even get to sign Mooselet's casts.

food is good. also, fun toys are fun. definately look to someone else for more Pasadena-ish locales as I am almost exclusively familiar with the south-bay.
though... (damn, just looked at your schedule and It probably wouldn't work, but I'll throw it out there anyway) I've been meaning to get together a reason to go up to Monterey Park and hit up NBC for some Dim Sum (but I believe that's only on the weekends)

Pasadena! Pasadena is 20 minutes from us! And JPL (not actually in Pasadena, btw ) is even closer (two very small towns over.) We can meet in La Canada for lunch, if I can find a way to get there or something (I think the 26yh is my doctor's appointment; maybe I can change it for a different day and KPC can take the whole afternoon off...) And we're up to anything at night time. And I can recommend many, many great places to eat in the area (because, well, I live here and grew up here.) What do you like to eat? American standard fare, Lebanese-Armenian, salads, something entirely different? Tell me and I'll tell you the best place to get it around here. We are SO going to meet you. And even if no one else shows up, you'll be real-- three of us in the family are.

(Also, if you have down time while you're here, you ought to check out Descanso Gardens. It's so beautiful. They'll have the Christmas trees up at the Hospitality House-- although I think they changed the name on that-- by the time you're here, and it's just a great place. It's in La Canada, about 10 minutes or less from JPL.)

I've never had Lebanese-Armenian before. That might be interesting. Let's see food I like: BBQ, Steak-n-potatoes, Cajun, Asian, Mexican, Seafood, and Italian. I will fly in on the 27th and I will have the afternoon of the 27th free. My evenings will be free also.
KQ, I would love to meet the ketchup family. I'm sorry I was unable to meet you when you came to see Boon.

Awesomeness. Dinner will be the easiest thing to do, of course, but let me know if you want to arrange something else. We can get a bus to La Canada if you want to do lunch one day, or we can just count on dinner. I can totally compile a list of the best places to eat in the area (if you're spending a lot of time at JPL and staying Pasadena, as I assume, I will include places in Pasadena, La Canada, La Crescenta, and Sunland-Tujunga, (and maybe Glendale-- that's not far, either.) I'll get my husband's input, too. We have the BEST torta restaurant (Mexico City-style fast-food sandwiches and other Mexican dishes) I've ever eaten at, and they actually have 3 locations in the area-- La Crescenta, Tujunga, and Pasadena-- so that's going to the top of the list... Let me work on it a bit and I'll e-mail it to you!

I did get hosed. I have to go to Boston in January also. I guess I made someone mad.
Thanks for being so willing to meet. Maybe we can do something next summer when I come out to Long Beach in June.

I guess I'll start making it again. We can still come to see you.
Actually my husband has the 27th completely off, so if you want we can do lunch or dinner that day and then I can give you a list in person.

It's not in the city. It's on the outskirts and La Canada considers it part of them. Just like they consider Verdugo Hills Hospital part of them, even though it has a Glendale address (it's right across the street from the movie theater with a La Canada address.) And like half of La Crescenta has Glendale addresses, but is considered La Crescenta anyway.
Boundary lines up here have a long and storied history and tend to be... weird and not in line with general acknowledgement of where things actually lie. It begins in old water disputes. I'd be happy to tell the story some time in length, but probably not on this thread...

Well, JPL and Caltech both consider themselves to be in Pasadena. Moreover, I'm fairly certain they are in Pasadena for the purposes of both taxes and mail delivery.

JPL-- nebulous, according to at least some people in the mail room, secretarial, and engineering departments at JPL.

I can e-mail you tonight and just give you the information. When you e-mail back, let us know you got it, and tell us what kind of food you want to eat.
