Well, my air conditioning stopped cooling after 13 months of use. Just in time for the 1 year full warranty to run out.

It turns out there is a leak in the coil, so all the freon had leaked out. The coils are under a 10 year warranty, so I don't have to pay for the new coil, but I had to pay 300 for the new freon and for the service call, and diagnostic test.

Grr, if only it had happened a month ago. Oh well, at least they came out quickly. I had a repairman at my house less than 30 minutes after I called. I can't even get pizza hut to get here that fast. [Smile]

It's warm enough for air conditioning? Where do you live?

Our AC broke this weekend too. Well, actually it jut seems like it froze over. We left it off much of the day today to thaw, but then it was trying to play catchup with the heat. We have found that if we ever let the temperature get up over 75 in here, we cannot get it back under until nightfall. It seems to be cooling now. I sure hope so. I really can't afford to pay someone to come look at it.

Florida. Today the high was 86 or so. It wasn't all that bad, I just opened the windows and was fine for most the day...but I figured I would get it taken care of now...and not wait for the 90's.

I usually keep my air set at 78, so it might have been broken for a while...and I just didn't notice since it has been relatively cool lately (though in FL it does get rather warm in parts of the winter).

Ah, yes. We don't turn it on unless it's in the 80s, either. But that's only been, like, 2 days this year here.

There's a couple feet of snow up in New Hampshire. I can't wait to be back in the 60s.

Lupus, did you call the manufacturer anyway? Some companies are lenient with the 1 year warranty if it breaks a month or less after the year warranty expires, especially if you are nice to them. What they do may vary but I had a similar experience and they paid for the labor of a service call and I paid for the freon.

Our heat pump broke last summer--well, one of the fans broke. It was going to be $500 to fix, so we went ahead and replaced the whole thing, which was around 15 years old and due to keep breaking. Fixing it hurt, but we got a tax credit (or deduction; not sure) and installed a humidifier at the same time. So that was good.

Up here in Maine I'm finally starting to see a bit of the sidewalks and driveways. Of course, it's all mud and puddles...

I feel bad for you northern New England folks. You guys got walloped, while us southern New England folks have been pretty much clear for several weeks now.

59 degrees right now... We should get the the 60s for only the second time since maybe last October?

I was sad when I had to turn on our air conditioner last week (we're in Phoenix). I keep the thermostat at 80 (when it's warm) and opening the windows up during the cool parts of the day wasn't enough to keep it at or below 80. Good thing there are still a couple days this week that it should be cool enough for me to keep the windows open. I'm just not ready for it to be summer (and the huge electric bills that accompany it - I was so happy that the bill for last month was less than $100). [Big Grin]
