I bought a Yamaha Virago 250 instead. Gets the same gas mileage (about 70 mpg) but only cost about $4000 brand new with a windshield, crash bar and saddlebags.

I seriously considered buying an Insight, but the damn things are going for $18000 used.

Of course, motorcycles only last about 1/4 as long as cars do, but it's fun to rebuild engines, and Viragos have been around for a long time, so there's lots of parts available...

I'll probably get another bike in a year or two. Congrats. Have fun and look out for the idiots out there who don't look out for bikes.

In all fairness, sometimes motorcyclists don't make themselves too easy to spot. They weave between lanes much more than cars, accelerate suddenly into slots, and aren't always visible out of the side-view mirrors. Often the only way I know they're coming is by the sound. And yes, I do as thorough a sweep of the mirrors as I can before making a lane change or turning at an intersection, even glancing out the rear window to make sure nobody's in my blind spot.

Hah. The ad at the bottom of the page is for a biker-oriented online dating service, www.bikerplanet.com.

"...a biker-oriented online dating service,..."

At first I LOL'd at the thought of the kinds of people I'd see on such a thing. However, when I clicked on the link and searched, I found the women to be mostly very normal and attractive-looking. Who'd a thunk it?
