Topic: Why did Haruhi Suzumiya have to be nonlinear?

Wikipedia isn't helping much, i think I managed to roughly watch it in order chronologically, but in the 6th episode where Kyon kisses Haruhi and she goes back to Pony tails Kyons feelings havent seem to have changed and still lusts after Asahina.
Continuality People! If a character does something for his behavior to change damnit his behavior should reflect that, not stay the same. Grr.

I think you've missed a couple of the points. One, Kyon doesn't have feelings for Haruhi. He kissed her because it was the only way to save the world, and he did it at the prodding of Asahina herself, from the future, along with...um...the awesome alien chick with glasses. Yuki? Something like that.
Two, the reason that the series in non-linear is to remove credibility from the narrator; that is, Kyon. I've long harbored the feeling that it's Kyon himself who controls the universe, even if it's just his own fantasy, and he's created/assembled this group of individuals at his own whims, for his own amusement. If you notice, in the very first episode Kyon makes it clear that he was a big fan of the super-natural growing up, and has very reluctantly had to admit that it doesn't exist. He acts like everything that Haruhi does is this big pain in the butt, but let's look at it realistically: he's in a club with three girls that he thinks are hot/cute, he gets to see them in embarrassing costumes all the time, not to mention the fact that he walks in on them changing more often than not. Also, the three girls fulfill certain stereotypical female archetypes that are, (supposedly...I can't speak from experience) attractive to men, and the only other male in the group offers no competition for their attention whatsoever. Kyon, despite having no powers of his own (once again, supposedly) still gets to hang out with this group of "aliens, time-travelers, and espers" and gets to go on all of their adventures with them. Why? We have no idea.
I could be totally off-base about my Kyon theory, but the point is that we are not supposed to take Kyon's POV completely as fact. That's what the non-linear time line represents. Kyon's manner of narration is also questionable, as there seems to be no line of demarcation between his spoken words and his thoughts. Characters frequently answer his "thoughts" as if he'd spoken them aloud.
By the by, you should totally look up this show on tvtropes.org. It's got more info/conspiracy theories about the show than you can shake a stick at.

Especially reading a bit from the novels, and hearing a little about the second season. It seems more and more like Kyon is the one who really has control over this. Even if it's without any conscious knowledge of it.
Although, if I were omnipotent, it might get boring. So, erasing my memories of my powers and giving them to someone utterly unpredictable, at least from a normal perspective, and then surrounding myself with awesome people who I get to have adventures with might be the way to go...

Plus, the song is the same. America will probably totally change the song and make it about, like, rainbows and fast cars or something.
Plus plus, did you check out the link to Hare Hare Yukai in Russian? I think it's even faster than the original.

Seems like it...but the real question is: how well can she act? It's impossible to tell for me since I don't speak much Russian. In America, you know, it's not rare for our VAs to be good singers, but the dubbing still sucks.

God Knows and Lost My Music in English isn't bad, in fact for an english song it is good and in context works well int he sense the VA IS an amateur singer which haruhi In character is supposed to be. So no complaints here for once inregards to englihs dubs.
So Inu Yasha, Gundam Wing, and Suzumiya and Escaflowne currently make up my short list of animes I will watch in english.

I wasn't aware that Haruhi had been done in English. Huh.

Indeed, I plan on making an anime review thread once I remember all the ones I have seen.
But yes I do keep up with the Naruto manga, the filler in the anime annoys me but at least its available on Viz for free. I wish the manga was released more frequently.

You might be interested in I Are Awesomeness. We break down the Naruto and Bleach mangas and the Naruto anime every week as soon as they come out and discuss future predictions. It's a pretty fun site.
The fillers right now are slow and lame, of course, but at least they're related, unlike most of the others. Plus, you know, Hinata got a lot of screen time, probably because of recent manga events.

*perks up* Hinata? Awesome. Naruto and Hinata should definately be the offical couple, for the sake of eugenic experiments alone.

Aww...*pat pat* You'd fit right in at IRA. I'm going to be doing a feature this week comparing NaruHina to NaruSaku.

But what if you got Hinata's disposition with Naruto's brains? You'd basically have the Rainman.
Wait, that's not right. The Rainman was smart.

Woah woah woah, Naruto gets pretty damn crafty mid way through Shipuuden and has quite the tactical head on his shoulders. As for Hinata's disposition shes shy and introverted(?) she does occassionally get badass moments though.

I don't know if I'd use the word crafty...I think he just thinks with his muscles. In other words, when he's in action he seems to do "the right thing" pretty often.
Although using Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu to learn things faster was a pretty good idea.

not just that, he used it for its original use as well, as scouts and to determine Kakuzu's fighting abilities without risking himself seemingly without urging from Kakashi. Basically while Kakashi suggested using many for training faster, Naruto himself figured out how to use them for for more tactical purposes.
