Today's election day in T&T. Its a very highly charged election with a lot of emotionally charged issues ranging from sky rocketing crime, government corruption, integrity issues on all sides, on top of racial and gender issues.
The Prime Minister dissolved the parliament 35 days ago the day before he face a no confidence vote over several major scandals. Under the constitution, this mandated a special election within 35 days. As an outsider, its been a very entertaining election but there is a great deal at stake.
Locals say that this is the most contentious election ever and passions are running high. Things are very quite right now as there are strict laws against any campaigning on election day but a lot of people are worried that there will be violence when the results come in.

My sister lives in the Dominican Republic, election days there sound similar, very CRAZY! They just kind of stay out of the way, off the streets basically, until things calm down.

The opposition won. We now have our first woman prime minister So far, things are calm. We had a lot of fireworks and celebrating in the streets around midnight when the election results came in but other than that.
