I apologise if this is in the wrong forum, or a repeat of previous threads. I don't have the time right now to sort through 172 pages of old threads to find a duplicate.
Last night I finished reading Shadow Puppets for the 7th time, if not more. Since the first time I've read it, I have wanted to find a way to write to the author my amazment, thanks, and congratulations at writing this book. It is perhaps the best book I've read, of all time. I cannot necessarily explain what it was that made it so amazing, but the magic is definitely there, multiple readings can only add to the brilliance of the book, never take away.
I believe it was perhaps the unique mix of storylines and characters that seperate this book from all the others I've read. Don't get me wrong, other books by Orson Scott Card have this magic as well (Seventh Son, Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow, Enchantment...), but here it is more unique, it is of a different sort. The military strategies, the overall view, the understanding of people, the chess-like thought processes. Everything was so carefully thought out, so perfectly planned. The book was simply was brilliant, the characters seemed so real, more real than I've ever seen fiction before.
There is a special eloquence that I've found throughout this book as well, a poetic sort of prose, which exists in the thoughts and words of genius. It definitely takes one to create a Bean, an Ender, and a Petra. The ideas and concepts throughout seem almost tangible, if such a thing were possible. The story is a puzzle, a riddle, that can be solved if you only have the right point of view. Everything fits, and everything has a purpose.
I'm afraid I'm not doing a very good job of explaining. Perhaps this is the sort of thing better felt than expressed. Has anyone else felt the same way, and are able to fill in the so obvious gaps in my explanation?

I concur, Mikal. So short and funny that he'd probably laugh , either because he thought you were serious, or from the sheer fact that he might believe you were a lunatic...but I have no problem admitting that I am... Ha, ha. Just joking. Well, I really liked Shadow Puppets, too. But, I have a hard time telling which book is really my favorite. Each OSC book I've read has it's own moment to be my favorite book, depending on how I feel at the moment. So, yes, I feel the same way you do about SP, it's really cool! But, I have also wanted to write OSC and just don't know how to accurately put my feelings into words. No problem, though. I'll figure it out one day...
