hmmm that is interesting...but how long will it actually take people to learn how to sub vocalize? and how much longer till they perfect it? untill it is truly like Jane...

On the contrary vocalized commands work extremely well. Just not the kind they sell to the Public. Heh. I'm sure is it's NASA not everything is controled my remote or a big switchboard. They have to be pretty well into good vocalized commands, though I'm not quite sure what subvocal commands would be used for. I imagine they could be used more by the military than NASA...

I have a degree in linguistics and find it very easy to believe such a system would work much better than vocalized command interpretation. When it comes to the anatomy of articulation, most sound units can be reduced to a set of features that are either on or off. But when spoken, they are all blended together into a kind of sound salad. Making the salad, you know just what goes in. But eating it (assuming you aren't looking) you can't always pick out all the flavors.

Every time I think about it, I am glad that lightsabers don't exist. Because if they did, I'd have to get one. If I had one, I'd have to play with it. If I played with it, I would eventually remove one of my limbs accidentally.

I just hope that we can invent some kind of ansible thingy so that jane cane be yet another step closer to hummanity. The only problem is, a lesser version of jane could exist in the internet right now, and we dont know about it because if we fount out of course we would kill it...
Uh-oh, im kinda repeating the plot of xenocide and CotM here, so ah, never mind that i said that, but i leave it in because that is truly what we would do.
