I finished reading Children of the Mind a week ago I believe. It was good..but no where as great as I was hoping/thinking it would be. I still like Speaker For the Dead the most and then Xenocide. Not sure if I like Ender's Game or Children of the Mind better. Prob Children, even though I was a bit disappointed.
I think my main disappointment was that I didn't want Ender to die. I didn't want him to go into "Peter". And if he did go into "Peter", I wanted Ender to be in control, not "Peter."
I also really wanted Ender and Novirha (sp?) to be happy. Even if that meant that Ender was to end up staying with her in the convent, then so be it. I just thought Chapter 2 was great. I thought it was sad, yet happy. Really good chapter, imo. I liked it.
Then, later on, we get that Ender wasn't happy being there. That he wanted to be out doing what Peter and Valentine were doing. And so it was killing him...
I didn't like that.
I know thats my main disappointment, cause I liked the whole storyline about Miro, Jane, and Young and Old Valentine.
I also liked some of the Wang-Mu and "Peter" stuff, although I don't like Peter as much as Ender. And of course I like Valentine and Novinha (I can never spell that name right..) better then Wang-Mu.
Hmm. Lots of interesting concepts in Children of the Mind. I like the way of traveling that they found and everything to do with Jane was really good.
Over-all, a good novel..just not what I wanted.
And you know, it feels like theres more to tell about "Peter", Wang-Mu, Miro, and Jane. The way it leaves off with "Peter" and Wang=Mu and Miro & Jane getting married and then the virus people isssue un-resolved and I think a few other things..
Ya, I know that Mr. Card said he wanted to do another book later on, set way in the future that connects the Ender series with the Bean series, but I don't know...I'd rather another Ender book (a book of Ender short stories perhaps? I think there's alot more that could be told about his life).
I liked the character of Ender from Speaker For the Dead to Children of the Mind (the little parts he played in that. The best part being Chapter 2, imo). I wasn't much into his character with Ender's Game. I think thats an ok to good book, but I think Speaker For the Dead (especially) and Xenocide are the best!
Anyway, I'm thinking about reading the Ender's Shadow series, but I'm not sure. I want to read more about this universe..but I'm not sure how I'd feel about books in the Ender universe with Ender not at the focus point...
Hmmm.
Well, I know I definitly want to read Speaker For the Dead and Xenocide again one of these days!!

Aren't you always sad at the end of the end of any book/movie you enjoy a lot? The fact that I won't be able to go through any more experiences with the characters I like always disheartens me, especially when the character dies. But as you noted, Ender didn't die, but was reborn into Peter.
So I think that, with all your likes, dislikes, hopes and wishes, you really did enjoy Children of the Mind. You bonded with the characters you identify with.

And btw, you can look up Novinha in the book
