I was recently indtroduced to Orson Scott Card and Enders Game. I've read and reread the ender books and the shadow books, just finished first meeting a few days ago.

Absolutely delightful. The way Enders Game intertwines with Enders Shadow is amazing. Telling a very similar story, that same thing that Enders Game depicted but from another view. I found it to be similar and disimilar in perfect ways.

My question is, now that I've finished all I can find in that area, what Orson Scott Card is best to move onto next? I've read countless books and few have intrigued me as much as these. The description of the human being in such detail is amazing. I just can't get enough of it.

Thanks
Brad

Hi Brad! [Wave]

You will probably get as many different answers as there are people here [Big Grin] So you could just go up to the 'OSC LIBRARY' link at the top of this page and see how it lists all his different series and choose one.

Personally, of course, I liked the Ender and Shadow series' best (and can hardly wait for the next one next March).

But the Alvin maker series (starts with Seventh Son) is also very good -- very different than the Ender series.

There are many books by OSC that are not part of any series that I highly recommend. I just got done with my second reading of Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus and I never tire of that book. The first time through it, you might think it starts a little slow, but it is well worth it. Other very good books by OSC are Enchantment and the Worthing Saga series.

You can read some other threads on these books by searching this forum, but be careful for spoilers!

Farmgirl's right, we all have our favorites. But out of the 40 (is that right?!) or so of his books that I've read, there have only been a couple I didn't like. So, in my view, you'd do well reading just about anything Card.

Of course, if you want something a little more specific...Pastwatch is one of my favorites, as are A Planet Called Treason, and Wyrms. You should definitely check out his short stories. Maps in a Mirror is a collection of his short stories through 1990. It's amazing. Also, he has a few of his short stories online, in "OSC Library".

There's a lot out there. Enjoy. [Smile]

Hay Brad. I don't really know what to suggest but have you read the book "First Meetings"? If you haven't, that would be a good start. It's mostly all dialog but that is what makes up a lot of cards works so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Well, I read through all the Ender and Shadow books a few months ago and after that I tried Memory of Earth, the Homecoming series, and Seventh Son, the Alvin Maker series. I liked both books, though I prob liked Seventh Son the most. So I continued reading the Alvin Maker series. I read it a bit out of order though. I read Prentice Alvin, the third book and I'm just now getting to the second book. I find the Alvin Maker series is interesting so far.

Oh and I also read the book Wryms recently.

So my suggestions: if your looking for a stand alone Card book, check out Wryms, if your looking for another series, well, it just depends on what you like.

If you want some fantasy, then check out the Alvin Maker series, but if you want more Sci-fi then I'd recommand the Homecoming series. Memory of Earth is the first book there. I haven't read all of those books yet, but I think they should be good. I'm definitly going to read them after I finish with the Alvin Maker series.

Plus the good thing about the Homecoming series: it is actually finished, unlike the Ender/Shadow series and the Alvin Maker series...

" Is currently reading Red Prophet. Will read Alvin Journeyman after that, then Heartfire, Cyrstal City and after that: back to the Homecoming series! Oh and I'm looking forward to Shadow of the Giant alot! Next year needs to come faster! lol! "
