I figured somebody would have noticed it before me, such as...well, every single reader of Ender's Game in Israel.
But the point was I distinctly remember OSC discussing in his book "Character and Viewpoint" the importance of the cover art. He wrote that he had to fight with the publishers more than once to not put the face or any likeness of his characters on the cover of his books, in order to create a more personal story. If he doesn't show you what the character looks like on the cover, and doesn't describe it in the story (and we all know how famously sparse he is on description), he says readers will tend to picture the character as looking somewhat like themselves and will therefore more closely identify.
That being said, I find that it would be inextricably damning to the entire story of Ender's Game to have a picture of the Enterprise D on the cover!
SURELY, there must be an interesting story behind all this...

Personally, I wish they'd just abolish cover art. All it does is put preconceived ideas in your head about the story that may or may not be fulfilled by the story itself.
I remember in elementary school, we read a book called "Blair's Nightmare". The cover was pretty creepy, with a couple of kids in a dark house, with frightened looks on their faces. It looked very nightmarish indeed, for a juvenile novel.
Trouble is, "Nightmare" was the name of the kid's dog. It wasn't remotely a horror story. Or at least, I distinctly remember thinking at the time that it was a stupid cover.
Speaking of stupid covers, can the publisher of the Alvin Maker series please stop giving them covers that make them look like romance novels? Some of us who read those books are guys, and we'd like to be able to read them in public, okay? Thanks.
I hate cover art. I just want a book to have the title and the author's name on the front. Anything else is extraneous.
