Hey Papa Moose or another long standing hatrack member I have a question. Right now their is new book mania. Its Mr. Card should make a linking book this and a First meetings in the Beanverse that. Is this something that is always going on or just a current fad?

It's been going pretty much ever since there was a second Shadow book. However, it does spike a bit when a new (Shadow) book has just come out or is about to, because for so many people Ender's Game (et al) is all of Card they've ever read, so they want Card to write more of it.

For most people who have read some of his other work, they would prefer another of his stand-alone novels (or even short stories) to seeing another Ender/Bean book. This year's a bonus, since we'll see both.

I'm not completely sure but I don't completely remember how the first one ended I read it like three years ago I just bought a copy and plan to reread it so if I'm making an idiot of myself please tell me but if I remember right alot of it had to do with I think it was Russian folklore and I'm sure theirs more of it than just the witch in Enchantment.

It's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It did go into the Ivan tales (some of them) and Baba Yaga.

The premise is that Ivan, a not-very-observant Jewish kid from Russia whose family emigrated to the US and who studies ancient Slavonic and other languages, goes back in time through a "fairy tale" spell to rescue "Sleeping Beauty" in a world where magic is real, has to take his bride back to the Ukraine and then the US to gather information and skills to fight Baba Yaga while his bride learns to adjust to modern reality, then go back and battle Baba Yaga. Sub-plot involves the relationship between the young couple. At the end, they have 4 kids, and travel back and forth between both worlds; it's pretty well wrapped up. I don't really think there's much room to add on that.

Your right last night I sat down and started rereading it again and the next thing I new I was finishing it. I got little sleep but your right it was fairly wrapped up. What I meant by a new enchantment was not so much the same characters but just another story involving russian folklore with people like baba yaga and such. A new book could be set in the same world and really have nothing to do with the original plotline. It could have new main characters and tie in other folklore. Also when I said another enchantment would be cool I was mostly just stating it as an example of a one timer that could be expanded upon instead of more books in the Enderverse.

But see, he doesn't really need to do that. He may decide some day to do another "fairy tale", but knowing Card, it would be new and different.

This has nothing to do with Card, but it does have to do with telling authors what to write. I'm not trying to be mean, but just check out what Lindsey Davis, one of my favorite authors, has to say on the subject. First one on the page. [Smile]

Thats a good link queen and its right authors do have to do their own ideas or they wouldn't be their books and we the readers wouldn't like them as much because in some weird way on some unconciouss level we would know it was not their idea. I just like toying around with thoughts on future books especially since it seems to be a huge trend on hatrack right now.
