Im new to the site, but have been a long time avid reader of the Ender, Homecoming, and Alvin series. Recently in a class on modern philosophy I have been reading the works of Leibniz which at the time seemed vaguley familiar, and I realized that I felt I had read some of this before.

It was the idea of Monades presented in Speaker that was the connection, and as such I was wondering what influence (if any) Leibnitzian philosophy has had on Card's writing. And if Orson Scott Card would be wiling to answer, what other philosophers (again, if any) have you drawn on, or found influential in any way regarding your writing?

Leibniz and Newton developed Calculus independently, but at about the same time in the 1600s (I think).

I've never read any Leibnitz. Nor have I learned any calculus. I must plead virginity on both subjects.
