So I was going through some of my boxes of stuff at my parents' house this weekend, and I ran across a copy of the "Barefoot to Zion" program signed by OSC. It was a pretty random piece of OSC memorabilia to have after all these years. The great thing is that the program reminded me that I actually met him at the premiere of the play. At the time he said that he was working on "Crystal City" (which I think actually ended up being "Alvin Journeyman.") I told him with all the authority of a fifteen year old that he should "go home and write." I don't remember what his response was (he was probably thinking "geez, what a weird kid.") Ahhh, to be young and nerdy again...

I was thinking - how cool to meet somebody who actually reads my books, here at a play that has nothing to do with my fiction career. I was also thinking: I'd LOVE to go home and write. But at the time I was jammed-up emotionally (it wasn't that long after the death of our baby girl) and Barefoot to Zion was the first thing I'd been able to write - and that was only because it was a play and there was an ironclad deadline. But at no point did I think anything negative about you. I thought it was nice that you valued my writing enough that you were willing to express eagerness for me to do more of it.

In that case, stop posting here and go write.

Um... please. Sir.

Wow, he actually remembered the conversation! I didn't think he would recall a random event from eight years earlier. Hats off to OSC! [Hat]
