I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I'm new to this forum....
is there a planned follow up to The Crystal City.
I just couldn't get enough of that series.

Also glad to hear of another 'Ender' book (that has Ender as a character) in the works...loved those too!

Master Alvin will finish the series. At the end of it he'll be dead. I've been saying this for years, so it's hardly a spoiler. A series called "the Tales of Alvin Maker" will obviously not end till the hero is dead; and after he's dead, there may be more tales, but they won't be "of" him!

There may be more stories, however, set prior to his death, during Alvin's wandering years. But Master Alvin will be the official "concluding volume."

hmm...I'm reading Magic Street right now with my lovely wife and we just finished Enchantment. We are now reading two books in between each Alvin book. After Magic Street we are reading Crystal City. Then We'll read Pastwatch and Treasure Box. I do hope Master: Alvin is at least in the works by then, seeing as how we will be ready to read it then.

Oh Mr. Card! Do hear our plea!!

If I remember right, Mr. Card plans on making Master Alvin a very long book. I'm sure it wont be ready for at least another year (I wanted to say two years, but I felt that was a little long).

As for Alvin dying, if you've read the series it's been painfully clear that death awaits him eventually. The dialogue between him and Margaret at the end of Crystal City should make that much obvious. Should be no suprise there.

Besides, it really is the only way that story could properly be ended. How many prophets or heros truly live a full life? Even the Lord our Savior saw his life cut short...

I'll be eagerly awaiting this next (final?) installment....

I don't understand why everyone thinks his death is obvious. Yes, Peggy has always seen him dying, but she has seen him dying a great deal thus far, and he hasn't died yet.

Furthermore, we've heard over and over again how she can't truly see his future because his making gets in the way. This doesn't seem like a small detail....so I'm not sure why everyone thinks Alvin's death is so obvious.

Because OSC is a good writer who would never mislead us with false foreshadowing.

Prediction:
Alvin will go to Carthage City and die.

Prediction:
Calvin will have something to do with it.

But even if you cling to the small hope that Peggy's torch ability can't reliably see Alvin's future, so there's still hope Alvin may overcome whatever the final threat is and emerge from the end of the series alive and victorious . . . well, there's still this little problem in the way:

"Master Alvin will finish the series. At the end of it he'll be dead. I've been saying this for years, so it's hardly a spoiler. A series called 'the Tales of Alvin Maker' will obviously not end till the hero is dead; and after he's dead, there may be more tales, but they won't be 'of' him!"

I guess I'll take OSC's word for it.... [Smile]

But if it weren't for that, I certainly wouldn't put any faith in Peggy's ability to see Alvin's future, since Card has reminded us over and over again she can't see it clearly.

Alvin will build the Crystal City up. People there will have special priviledges with their knacks now. Think of them as super knacks. Everything is keen for a couple of years until this glass window floating through outer space for a couple of decades shows up and three kyrptonians emerge...

I mean...

Alvin will unjustly wind up at carthage and die. Calvin will try to get people to follow him since he is the closest thing to a maker left. However, Aurther Stuart will undoubtedly be shown as the new leader, and say that they all need to go live with Tecumsawah or however thats spelt in the moutain area. People believe him, people don't. The people that don't believe him follow Calvin thus starting the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Makers. This is only a fad though and will eventually simmer down to a handful of followers after a couple of years.

Measure is with Alvin when he dies, and dies with him singing "Where is thumpkin." This is known for the rest of eternity as The Makers favorite song is is sung every other sunday.

Cooper gets married, and follows Aurther Stuart out. He eventually goes back to England to tell everyone to move to where the Makers have gathered, now known as The Decently Sized Sodium Sea Valley.

After a couple of marriage problems and fights with the US, and horribly written propaganda about sex slave trades, Aurther Stuart dies and Verily Cooper, who is extremely old by now, becomes the leader of the city.

Why does that one scare everyone? It's has a feeling like everything is going to turn out bad in the end no matter what but so what? It's my favorite!
