The story is that in our distant future human expands past our planets and begins colonizing the stars until a wormhole opens up, brave explorers enter the worm hole and found new colonies on the otherside until the hole collapses, a dark age envelops the colonists and 99% of them perish but the survivors struggle to survive and adapt to their surroundings until the first of them the Amarr religious and steeped in tradition rediscover starflight and find that they are not alone.
Their are 4 races: Amarr Empire, Minimatar Republic, Caldari State, and the Gellente Federation (the only true democracy).
This game is extremely hard to describe but I'll do my best, essentially its a Sci-fi MMORPG where the players are in control of ships (just 1 ship at a times) and can switch his ship and customize it in millions of endless permutations of customization.
Their are a wide variety of ship classes from the civilian types like Cargo haulers and Miners to the more combat oriented like Frigates, destoryers, cruisers and battleships.
Their are different ways a ship can travel, first is impulse normal slow movement that ships use usually in combat, docking, patrolling an asteroid betls etc. Then theirs warp where you travel some >7,000,000 Km/s to travel across a solar system (impulse is only 300 meters/s so it'ld take months to travel across a solar system) and then their's jumping using Stargates (large ringlike structures like in Babylon 5) to go from system to system.
There are hundreds of star systems ALL on one single server so you can get as many as 63,000 players playing siultaniously (that was the new record) in the Eve universe from nations across the globe (though the Chinese have their own server which will one day join with the normal eve universe). Since it's all 1 server it's also technically a PvP server which comes to the next factoid.
You in your ship can lock on and attack any other ship/station in the game, regardless of the size of your ship or the enemy ship so to prevent all the higher end players in BB from hunting down noobs each solar system has a security rating from 1.0 (secure the NPC bots come to defend you if your attacked by Player Pirates) to 0.0 where the NPC pirates can be BB and the player pirates can attack and destory your at will.
The game features a completly player driven economy so supply and demand is determined completely by the players. So the regional price of a good is determined by how many of that item is there and how many are buying.
Instead of guilds/clans etc you have Corporations and Alliances, corps can get their own space stations and with its member's maintain its own fleets for wars.
Warfare in this game isfascinating, because you can film with a 3rd party program your battles you can in theory watch them over and over to learn what your enemy strat was, what/when went wrong with yours. etc. Also nothing is fixed you decide your task force's strat you decide your training you decide if you have the will or determination to succeed.
An amazing game and memebers can send 14 day free trial accounts to people I'm still on my account until i convince my parents to lemme use their credit card. Or make a debit card. :/

Paying stinks. I'll continue to play CS and SC forever. =) Or until I finally buy Savage, the demo of which was amazing.
