I'm a newbie to the Hatrack forums. While enjoying myself here, I've seen several posts where you defend yourself against would-be attackers. I just wanted to say a couple of things, and have my new-found colleagues chip in with their two cents...
Most of the people who post here respect you. Your books are very enjoyable, while also being thought-provoking to the extreme. Ditto with your Reviews and World Watch columns - even when I disagree, I know that your opinion is a well informed and thought out one.
Not everyone disrespects you when you have a differing opinion then they do - but the ones who do tend to be the loudest.
If we didn't respect your opinion, it isn't likely we would be here, discussing your work. Please know there are many here who respect you.
Wow, this is hard stuff to write. Especially at the end of a work day. Just know that we respect you, but are not mindless zombies who take your work as gospel. Sometimes we have to talk these things out, and sometimes it sounds bad. Like this post probably does, even though it's written with the utmost respect for you. I'm just going to shut up now, stop rambling, and head home for the holidays. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!
